Brief Summary of Job Duties Under the direction of the Associate Director of Technology & Strategic Communications, designs, implements and maintains Associated Student's websites. Works with a team of staff and students to coordinate website planning, create graphics and dynamic elements designed to accommodate student needs and highlight the varied programs of Associated Students. Works directly with users to determine needs and implement web strategies and goals of student groups and projects. Coordinates with department staff to develop informational goals and design various pages to meet each area's requirements. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training 1-3 years Experience with python, html, css, and related web technologies 1-3 years Experience developing digital consumer web and mobile experiences using the agile methodology 1-3 years Experience with media and social media integration 1-3 years Experience of developing web pages using html/css/javascript Knowledge of secure software development Intermediate skills associated with the design, development, modification and deployment of software, including object-oriented programming concepts Knowledge of other IT related areas Demonstrated software repository skills Preferred Qualifications 2+ years experience with MAC OS 1-3 years Excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated experience in tailoring presentation of information to fit audiences of varying technical backgrounds Demonstrated ability to follow software specifications. Special Conditions of Employment UCSB Campus Security Authority under Clery Act Satisfactory conviction history background check UCSB is a Tobacco-Free environment Job Functions and Percentages of Time: 40% Web Design - Works as part of the Web Development team to coordinate site planning, create graphics, create dynamic elements, etc. to support the varied needs of student groups within the department. Coordinates with users to determine needs and implement web strategies and goals of student groups and career staff. Administrates over 80 WordPress sites used by student groups, staff units, individual projects and more. Install, update and customize WordPress plugins and themes to meet the needs of the project. Maintaining both a testing version and live install for all sites. Designs sites with varying levels of functionality. Including sites for ecommerce, events listing, appointment systems, elections and much more. Makes ongoing revisions or improvements to sites, including plugin curation, theme management (and editing), and more. Creates and implements a variety of online forms. Stays current on best practices in the industry and new technological advances. Ensure that sites can be maintained by other staff or students as appropriate to each unit within Associated Students. Provides training and consultation for those responsible parties for the updating of specific sites. Works with student webmasters to ensure consistent messaging, compliance and best practices. Assures that design meets with department approval and is consistent with overall department design, branding and informational goals. 40% App/Web Development - Works with the web development team to coordinate the planning and creation of dynamic elements designed to accommodate advanced student needs and highlight the varied programs of Associated Students. Research solutions and recommend off the shelf or custom solutions to accommodate the web and mobile application needs of students (such as a food needs service). Develops and integrates custom Javascript, PHP, SQL. Python and other frameworks into a variety of projects (including those utilizing WordPress). Coordinates with the Associate Director of Technology & Strategic Communications to plan for web servers, security, site performance and availability, software compatibility and web-based application support. Troubleshoots advanced functionality issues and provides testing of web applications, engaging users in the process. Conducts on-going assessments of current projects to ensure they meet the needs of current boards, committees, entities and enterprises. Participates in web development team meetings to engage in the prioritization of projects and division of workload items among the team as appropriate. 15% External Communications - Serves as the central point of contact for online queries to the organization. Routes messages to appropriate staff and entities. Maintains AS Answers website which hosts frequently asked questions for the department. Updates it regularly by querying students and staff as to their changing needs and information. Coordinates with the Creative Media Unit and department heads on social media matters. Plans timely posts to our AS social accounts to advertise and inform stakeholders. 5% Special Projects - Creates and supports accounts on the department's Slack workspace. Maintains and creates forms related to campus activities and infrastructure including DocuSign. Performs other duties as assigned.
