Automotive Service Advisor Job Description and Primary Job Functions
SUMMARY: Directs and coordinates activities concerning inspections, maintenance, diagnosis and repair of vehicles alongside fellow employees. Advising clients throughout the repair process with updates, estimates and/or recommendations for their vehicle. Assists the shop foreman in control of workflow and shop environment. Ensures compliance with all regulations concerning vehicle repair and environmental concerns.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Always observe and adhere to all AMVIC and OH&S rules and regulations.
● Each employee must adhere to all OSHA safety rules and regulations as well as all city and county regulations regarding shop safety, fuel spill cleanup or other flammable or hazardous material.
● Ensure that all work is performed to proper specifications.
● Wear appropriate safety equipment as needed.
● Attend company-related work and safety meetings.
● Maintain a cost-conscious attitude toward all company spending.
● Assist other employees as needed.
● Immediately report any damage to shop equipment or facilities. Correctly fill out incident report as needed.
● Train, supervise and direct all service department employees as needed.
● Instruct service department employees in proper work procedures and company polices.
● To act in a professional manner suitable as to represent a quality organization with which you are employed, always and in every instance projecting an attitude of honesty and respectfulness.
● Meet and greet every customer in a manner that will not only maximize customer satisfaction but also the integrity of the repair on the customer’s car.
● Complete every work order according to company standards and properly provide the customer with an accurate estimate.
● Ensure all under-car, under-hood and preventive maintenance inspections and reports are complete and accurate.
● Dispatch work to proper technician to the point of ensuring the best possible repair inthe least amount of time.
● Ensure that all authorized work is completed and billed properly and the work order is updated fully and properly.
● Use the phone and other communication equipment in a professional manner, always with the intention of creating a long-term relationship between the repair shop and the customer.
● Prepare estimates in a manner as to ensure the correct amount of profit for the repair facility.
● Order parts from sources that will provide not only the best price but also the best quality product possible.
● Contact customers and present the needed repairs in a manner intended to motivate them to make the purchase according to your professional opinion.
● Follow all rules and regulations as spoken or written in any form by the management, i.e. employee’s handbook and any addendums issued or posted at any time.
● Maintain a positive attitude and the team concept at all times.
● Test-drive vehicles to ensure problem is corrected.
● Inspect each vehicle for cleanliness before releasing it to the customer.
● Insist that fender covers, floor mats, and seat covers are used on every vehicle.
● Direct procurement of all types of equipment and materials, supplies, and parts required to maintain automotive equipment, garages, and storage facilities.
● Coordinate automotive repair and maintenance services to obtain maximum utilization of automotive equipment and prevent operational delays in other departments.
● Open and close the shop. Hours of operation for the shop are 7:30am to 5:30pm (Mon-Thurs) and 7:30am. till 5:00 P.M. (Fridays) The shop must be open by 7:30 A.M. and must remain open until closing time.
● Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises 2 to 10 employees in the
service facility. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the
organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring,
and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising
performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and
resolving problems.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must
be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year
college or technical school; or three years to five years related experience and/or
training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Graduation from an
industry-recognized service writers training program.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals,
professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write
reports business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present
information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and
the general public. Must read and write English proficiently.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts, such as
probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts, such as fractions,
percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to calculate gross
profit.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw
valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in
mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
● Current driver’s license.
● Proof of minimum state required insurance on personal vehicle.
● Driving record acceptable to our current insurance carrier.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to operate computer system.
Must have good people skills, outgoing.
Must have good communication skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving
mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of
electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The

to vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
