Job Description Drug Product Design and Development Overview Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie Interns. This internship opportunity is in the Drug Product Design and Development group within Small Molecule CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Control) Development department. The intern will evaluate the effect of ionizing radiation on sustained release formulations containing biodegradeable polymers and how best to mitigate those effects. Under supervision of senior research scientists in the group, the individual will have opportunity to: Gain exposure to pharmaceutical product development. Learn microsphere preparation. Learn instrumental techniques to evaluate changes in polymer structure. Key responsibilities include: Literature research. Formulation sample preparation. Characterization of formulations. Data collection, interpretation, organization, and presentation. This internship will be based in Irvine, CA. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Master's Degree or PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or other related field. Must be enrolled in university for at least one semester following the internship. Preferred Qualifications Expected graduation date between December 2025 – July 2026. Ability to conduct and interpret scientific experiments, providing suggestions for additional experiments. Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including analysis. Self-motivated; ability to execute with limited supervision and direction. Can work independently or part of a team. Troubleshoot experiments, identify, and solve elementary problems in experimental designs, including laboratory experimentation. Proficient in required software including Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams. Benefits and Amenities Competitive pay. Relocation support for eligible students.
