Overview:
The Sioux Falls Canaries are seeking motivated, enthusiastic people for a Game Day Camera Operator position, offering an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience with an independent professional baseball team in the American Association of Professional Baseball, an MLB partner league. This part-time, paid position provides an excellent learning opportunity for students passionate about sports media, video production, and live event coverage.
Position Summary:
The Game Day Camera Operator will work closely with the Videoboard Director to provide comprehensive camera coverage during home games. The role involves ensuring quality video feeds for the videoboard, live stream broadcasts, and in-house content, enhancing the overall game day experience for fans. Ideal candidates will have a background in camera operations and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. This is a part-time, paid position beginning May 13th until the end of the Canaries season (mid-September) and will report to the Director of Game Experience and Internal Media Relations and Videoboard Director.
Key Responsibilities Pre-Game:
Perform camera checks (white balance, iris, wireless signal) to ensure optimal image quality for live broadcasts and videoboard displays. Assist with pre-game production for the videoboard and live stream content, including setting up and testing equipment.
In-Game:
Capture live footage of key moments on the field, including pitchers, batters, base runners, coaches, and other players for both in-house and stream purposes. Operate cameras during between-inning activities, fan contests, and promotions (e.g., dance cam, kiss cam, fan races). Work collaboratively with stream directors and videoboard directors to execute an engaging and high-quality production that serves both in-house and broadcast needs. Provide coverage of on-field host interactions, fan engagement, and in-park activities.
Post-Game:
Return equipment to storage locations. Contribute to team debriefs and preparation for the next game day.
Qualifications: Background in camera operations, familiarity in adjusting camera settings, conducting pre-production checks, and maintaining video equipment. Enthusiastic, positive attitude with a strong desire to succeed Detail-oriented, highly organized, and self-motivated, with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Availability to work all Sioux Falls Canaries home games, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with directors and crew members. Some heavy lifting may be required.
