Overview As a member of the Global Banking and Markets (GBM) Communications team, the Senior Manager, U.S. Region Communications, will play a leading role in internal and external communications for the business lines and support functions across Scotiabank’s U.S. Region. The incumbent will conceptualize, develop, implement, and measure the success of internal and external communications while ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will be an outstanding writer and strong project manager, with experience writing in different voices for a range of audiences. The incumbent will also bring experience of working with the media and supporting issues management. What You’ll Do Manage end-to-end process of external communications on behalf of assigned portfolios while ensuring alignment with Global Communications and all-Bank plans and priorities. Assist in the development and execution of internal and external communication strategies and tactics, including positioning and key message development. Support senior management and business partners by interpreting complex messages and creating targeted communications. Lead media relations, developing and executing proactive media strategies, trains spokespeople, and manages reactive media process. Spearhead issues management providing strategic communications advice and support for any issues that may have a reputational risk to the business. Monitor current issues and events to produce relevant and timely thought leadership. Support broader Global Banking and Markets-wide communications initiatives. Foster an inclusive work environment and communicate vision/values/business strategy. Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions. What You’ll Bring Qualifications: College diploma or degree in communications, journalism, or equivalent experience. Minimum of ten (10) years working experience in a corporate communications or related industry communications experience. Understanding of the financial industry is an asset. Fluency in Spanish is an asset. Skill and Experience: Exceptional written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to create and deliver strategic communications plans. Demonstrated media relations and issues management experience. Excellent project management skills with a high-level of accountability for the quality and timely completion of projects. Strong organizational and project management skills, with meticulous attention to detail. Proven ability to build and maintain meaningful relationships with colleagues across a range of functions.
