About WASHINGTON NEWS BUREAU:

The D.C. Bureau covers live breaking news, politics, and in-depth investigations for Gray TV's 113 television markets. Its regional team works closely with stations, covering issues directly impacting viewers in their markets. The national team reports on domestic and foreign issues affecting the entire country. It often travels with the President as he meets with world leaders overseas. InvestigateTV produces investigations for Gray TV and recently sparked new legislation on Capitol Hill. Local News Live is a 24/7 live-streaming news network featuring stories from Gray TV stations.

Job Summary/Description:

Gray Media is seeking an on-camera weekend multimedia journalist in its Washington, DC bureau. This is a weekend position: working Wednesday to Sunday. Responsibilities include finding, researching, and reporting on stories and events of interest to the local communities served by Gray's stations. The position requires a self-starter who can and will work directly with station news directors to make national stories locally relevant and bring local issues to the national spotlight. The ideal candidate should have knowledge and interest in Congressional and national politics. The individual must work well with and maintain communication with Capitol Hill lawmakers and staff. The position requires a true team player who also has the drive to work solo and can be trusted alone on assignments.

Duties/Responsibilities include (but are not limited, to):

- Delivering on-air news events in an engaging, exciting, and accurate manner
- Providing daily live shots for Gray TV stations
- Using editorial judgment to help determine the content of news product
- Pitching and researching stories
- Conducting interviews
- Shooting video
- Writing TV copy
- Editing video using Adobe Premiere
- Setting up live shots with a TVU
- Coordinating with stations to gather and distribute content
- Using creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (viewer pictures, webcam interviews, etc.) to enhance stories
- Posting stories and videos for digital and social media
- Setting up studio and field equipment
- Building contacts on Capitol Hill and around Washington
- Filing and organizing completed stories in the archive
- Performing other tasks as required by bureau management

Qualifications/Requirements:

- At least 3 years of experience in a commercial newsroom preferred
- BS/BA in journalism or communications
- Ability to shoot, write, and edit your own stories
- Excellent knowledge of non-linear editing using Adobe Premiere
- Knowledge of TVU live technology
- Knowledge of field and studio equipment
- Experience with posting stories to news websites and social media
- Knowledge of local news and newscast production
- Working knowledge and interest in Capitol Hill, politics, and campaigns
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Excellent time management skills
- Computer literacy
- Schedule flexibility
- A valid driver`s license and a good driving record
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Willingness and ability to travel to local markets and for stories
