Are you a creative communicator with a passion for the arts? The South Dakota Art Museum is looking for a Marketing and Communications Coordinator to lead our efforts in connecting with audiences, enhancing our public presence, and telling the stories that make our museum unique. This position is located in Brookings, South Dakota and is a 12-month, full-time, benefits-eligible position.
Accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, the South Dakota Art Museum at South Dakota State University (SDSU) serves the peoples and communities of the state and its visitors as South Dakota's premier visual arts resource. With a mission to inspire creativity, connect people, and enrich lives through art, the Museum collects, preserves, exhibits, and interprets visual art to provide access and education and to foster appreciation of the visual arts. The museum's extensive permanent collection is comprised of nearly 7,000 items ranging from paintings, works on paper, textiles, sculpture, and ceramics, and includes significant collections of American Indian art. Seven galleries host about 12 new exhibits every year featuring a wide variety of artworks and themes, some from the permanent collection and others from traveling exhibits and loaned objects. Many of the exhibitions have ties to South Dakota and others bring national and international perspectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Marketing and Communications Coordinator plays a pivotal role in elevating the South Dakota Art Museum's visibility, driving visitor engagement, and fostering strategic partnerships. By orchestrating comprehensive marketing strategies, managing public relations, and delivering high-impact visual design, this position encourages donor support and ensures consistent brand representation across all communication channels, thereby supporting the museum's mission and reinforcing its standing as the state's premier visual arts resource.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, or a related field is required by start date. A Bachelor's degree in Business, Professional Writing, Journalism, Arts Management, or Museum Studies will be considered if the applicant has advanced experience (5+ years in a job role with similar duties) and preferred qualifications;
- At least three years experience in a marketing/communications/design job role with similar duties;
- General knowledge of marketing strategy, campaign execution, branding, website management, social media, and email campaign strategies;
- Demonstrated advanced graphic design skills (skilled in Adobe Creative Suite);
- Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, implement, and manage effective projects;
- Demonstrated experience creating or managing digital and printed collateral, signage, and promotional materials;
- Demonstrated experience coordinating with vendors and partners to execute successful design projects, marketing strategies, and/or campaigns;
- Ability to develop, manage, and execute successful budget projections;
- Excellent oral and written communications skills; and
- Valid driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- More than one year of experience creating and maintaining a successful social media presence for a business/organization;
- More than one year of experience managing marketing and communications channels for advertising, public relations, and or communications;
- Background developing brands, managing design and communications, and building audiences for the arts and/or University campus programs;
- Experience in advancement communications;
- Experience in communications crisis management; and
- Basic photography, videography, and video and audio cutting/editing skills.
