Position Summary: The
Chief Marketing and Fund Development Officer
(CMDO) is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing and driving the organization's marketing, branding, and fundraising efforts. This role focuses on creating and executing strategies that enhance public awareness, expand the donor base, secure financial support, and strengthen partnerships with stakeholders. The CMDO works closely with the executive team and Board of Directors to align marketing and fund development initiatives with the organization's mission and strategic goals, ensuring a strong, cohesive brand presence and a sustainable fundraising model. Here's What You'll Do: Strategic Leadership:
Develop and implement comprehensive marketing and fundraising strategies to support organizational growth and financial sustainability. Collaborate with the CEO and executive team to set short- and long-term goals for marketing, branding, and fund development. Align marketing and fund development initiatives with the organization's mission, vision, and overall strategic plan. Collaborate with the Board of Directors to execute on board fundraising goals and strategies. Marketing and Branding:
Oversee the creation and execution of integrated marketing campaigns, including digital marketing, public relations, and content creation. Ensure consistent messaging and branding across all communication channels to enhance visibility and engagement. Analyze market trends and adapt marketing strategies to meet changing needs and conditions. Manage and strengthen the organization's brand image, reputation, and positioning. Fund Development and Donor Relations:
Develop and implement fundraising strategies to expand the organization's donor base, managing portfolios, and increase contributions. Cultivate and manage relationships with major donors, corporate sponsors, foundations, government, and other funding sources. Lead efforts in grant writing, sponsorship proposals, and donor communications. Plan and oversee fundraising events and donor appreciation activities to strengthen donor loyalty and engagement. Team Leadership and Development:
Lead and mentor a team of marketing and development professionals, fostering a collaborative, results-driven work environment. Set clear performance goals and conduct regular performance evaluations. Provide ongoing training and professional development opportunities for the marketing and fund development teams. Financial Management and Reporting:
Prepare and manage budgets for marketing and fund development, ensuring efficient use of resources. Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the success of marketing and fundraising efforts. Present regular updates to the CEO and board of directors on the progress of marketing and fund development initiatives. Additional responsibilities and projects as assigned.
Here's What We're Looking For: Key Skills and Qualifications: Education:
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a related field (Master's preferred). Experience:
At least 8-10 years of experience in marketing, fundraising, or a related field, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role. Proven Success:
Demonstrated success in developing and executing marketing and fund development strategies. Leadership:
Strong leadership and team-building skills, with a track record of managing and developing teams. Communication:
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience in public speaking and media relations. Financial Acumen:
Experience in budget management and a strong understanding of financial principles related to marketing and fundraising. Data-Driven:
Proficiency in using data to make informed marketing and fundraising decisions. Adaptability:
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment and adapt strategies to meet new challenges. Stakeholder Engagement:
Proven ability to cultivate relationships with diverse stakeholders, including donors, sponsors, and community partners. Preferred Qualifications: Certifications:
CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) or similar certification. Digital Marketing Expertise:
Experience with digital marketing tools and platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, CRM systems, social media analytics). Event Planning:
Experience planning and executing successful fundraising and community engagement events. Bilingual/bicultural (English/Spanish) preferred.
Bilingual ability is a plus. Willingness to accept the beliefs and principles of the Girl Scout Movement and acceptance of the relevant and compelling benefits of Girl Scouting. Girl Scout experience preferred. Licensed and insured California driver, must pass background screening including driving.
