Overview:
This position is responsible for music at all liturgical and non-liturgical celebrations; the training, development, and preparation of cantors, musicians, and choir members; and all administrative functions associated with the position.
Qualifications:
Practicing Catholic.
Master’s degree in music or Bachelor’s degree with 15+ years of experience in lieu of Master’s degree.
Experience with liturgical music in a parish setting.
Experience recruiting, leading, and motivating volunteer cantors and choir members.
Excellent keyboard and vocal skills.
Basic computer skills.
Collaborative team member demonstrating cooperation, flexibility, and personal maturity.
Experience establishing and managing a music ministry budget.
Job Responsibilities:
Plans and prepares music for all liturgical activities, in keeping with the preferences of the Pastor. Collaborates in detailed planning of liturgies on a monthly basis.
Proficient in organ and piano.
Leads all weekend and Holy Day of obligation Masses, Funerals, Weddings, taped TV Masses, Christmas Carol services, First Communions, Confirmations, among others.
Provide advice and guidance to couples and families for preparation of wedding and funeral liturgies.
Teaches and plays both contemporary and traditional music that reflects Vatican II theology and scriptural texts. Selects different genres for different types of Masses.
Recruits volunteer cantors, musicians, and choir members.
Creates schedules for cantors, musicians, and choir.
Plans and leads rehearsals with cantors, choirs, and musicians to prepare for all liturgies and non-liturgical concerts/performances.
Reestablish and lead adult choir for service at liturgies from mid-September through May, including Christmas and Holy Week.
Recruit volunteer director of children’s choir and oversee preparation for choir to serve at Sunday 9:00 AM Family Mass and other liturgies as requested by the choir.
Maintains professional competence through regular music practice.
Works with staff to coordinate bulletin announcements, publicity, etc.
Participates in staff and liturgy meetings as requested by the Pastor.
Maintains organized and updated music files.
Provides accurate copyright information and manages music budget.
Organizes and maintains all equipment used by musicians, including but not limited to organ, piano, microphones, stands, and sound system.
Provide and teach new music for use at the parish.
Selects music that is can be sung by the congregation and encourages the congregation to participate.
Collaborates with other Music Directors and outside contacts to facilitate the growth of new ideas.
Performs any other duties as directed by the Pastor.
