Position Title: Librarian
Department or Unit: School Assignment
Reports To: Principal or Designee
Supervises: Various non-professional personnel
Job Summary: Provides library resources and assists in their proper use.
Typical Duties:
1) Operates and supervises libraries and provides assistance to users as necessary.
2) Conforms to performance standards of the school system; maintains current and accurate records and prepares required reports.
3) Organizes the library for effective use by providing maximum access to library collections.
4) Participates in the instructional program of the school.
5) Provides an instructional program in library skills appropriate to student abilities, needs, and curricular requirements.
6) Directs the selection, cataloging and classifying, processing, and circulating of material in the library.
7) Develops a media center which provides print and non-print materials.
8) Encourages students to read and maintains knowledge of their reading abilities.
9) Displays personal conduct which sets and example for students to emulate.
10) Plans library schedule with administrator and teachers and implements the schedule on a daily basis.
11) Maintains current file of state and local regulations regarding the operation of school libraries.
12) Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Bachelor's Degree in Library Science (Master's Degree preferred).
