Summary:

The Library Assistant I supports the Sonoran University of Health Sciences Community by demonstrating initiative and competence in sustaining and improving Sonoran University’s learning environment through access to the Library and its resources. The Library Assistant I supports the Library Manager by providing a high level of service to the campus community through the provision of appropriate materials and services that enhance learning and support the curriculum. The Library Assistant I works to support the university’s mission of providing the highest quality education in naturopathic medicine, patient care, clinical nutrition, nutrition business leadership, and research in areas of medicine and nutrition.

The Library Assistant I works autonomously, after given direction, in a wide variety of tasks, which include ensuring the daily efficiency of operations, establishing Library services priorities, and ensuring overall satisfaction with library and information services.

Responsibilities:

  1. The Library Assistant I manages Circulation Operations and Services, utilizing the EOS. Web Library Operating System, working with the Sonoran Registrar’s Office to maintain patron records, checking-in and checking-out materials, circulation notices, collecting fines, ensuring materials are returned, etc.
  2. The Library Assistant I assists the Library Manager, and generally manages, the acquisition and management of the Library physical serials collection, including cataloging, maintaining SERHOLD in the National Library of Medicine’s DOCLINE system, etc.
  3. The Library Assistant I generally manages general Library day-to-day operations, patron assistance, other library services not otherwise tasked to other Library Staff, general clerical duties, testing/examinations, cleaning, organizing, etc.

The Library Assistant I supports and assists in Library Services and Tasks to include, but not limited to, as follows:

  1. The Library Assistant I, as needed, supports and assists the Library Assistant II with inter-library loan services, library materials and collection maintenance, assistance and instruction to students on library databases, catalog and other resources, and other tasks to be determined.
  2. The Library Assistant I assists with tracking library data and keeping usage statistics, supporting accurate data for department decision makers.
  3. The Library Assistant I follows department operating procedures, actively participates in collaborative environments, works cross-departmentally and out of normal scope of practice when needs arise.

Education & Experience:

  • One or more years providing excellent customer service.
  • One or more years of demonstrated clerical and organizational skills.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Minimum Education: High School diploma or equivalent (GED)

Desired Education: Some college preferred

Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. Library experience preferred. Ability to work as a team.

Working Environment:

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extensive periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse. Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling of up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Written and oral communication is required to perform essential functions.
