Nature of Work
The purpose of the class is to supervise, schedule and evaluate library staff and functions in adult services. The class is responsible for supervision, planning, and managing of library functions such as collection development, reference services, readers' advisory, programming and outreach in the community. This position also serves as librarian-in-charge during evenings and weekend assignments. The class works within broad policy and organizational guidelines, independently plans and implements projects; and reports progress of major activities through periodic conferences and meetings.
Essential Job Functions
Minimum Requirements
Requires a master's degree in Library Science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association with three (3) years of progressively responsible related library experience including a minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience.
Requires strong computer and internet skills, experience with Microsoft Office applications (i.e.: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint), and practical experience with social media and mobile devices and their applications.
Requires strong customer service, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills.
May require occasional working outside regular business hours.

All employees may elect to tax defer an amount allowed by the IRS to a 457 deferred compensation account
Life Insurance: $50,000.00 policy - 50% at age 70 for general employees, police and fire - 100% premium paid.
Bereavement Leave: 24 hours of leave with pay.
Holidays: 11 paid holidays.
PTO Sell Back program: Employees are eligible to sell PTO time back to the City, a maximum of 2 times per fiscal year for a total of 160 hours. Employees can only sell back as much PTO time as they have actually used in the previous 12 months. Employees covered by a CBA may sell time a maximum established by their written bargaining agreement.
Computer Purchase: The City will finance the employee's purchase of an approved computer system up to $1,000.00. Total of loan divided by 39 payroll deductions.
Fitness Programs: The City will pay 50% payment of the monthly fee for the employee and spouse for one fitness center each. Participating centers are: Not the Norm Crossfit, Planet Fitness, Anytime Fitness, and Infinity Fitness.
Safety Shoes: The City will pay up to $150.00 per year for the cost of one pair of approved safety shoes/boots for those positions requiring safety shoes/boots.

Essential Job Functions
- Responsible for the development of the adult print and non-print collections according to the Library's Collection Development and Management Policy. Maintains collections through a selection and acquisition of new and donated materials, and discarding outdated materials using standard professional tools and judgment.
- Develops and submits to the library director budget requests for adult services materials and equipment and recommends purchases within the approved budget amounts.
- Works with the Library Program Coordinator to develop and implement a broad range of public programming for adults to promote lifelong learning and the love of reading, to provide opportunities for personal growth, and to help people gain digital literacy skills.
- Develops and manages outreach programs pertaining to adult services and makes presentations to public and private groups and agencies. Working with the Library Program Coordinator maintains oversight for the updating of the adult services content on the Library's website and social media sites, and the general promotion of library services and programs to adults. , Participates in community events to promote library services.
- Oversees the organization, preservation, promotion, and use of the library's local history and genealogy collections.
- Monitors appropriate computer systems and networks; assists customers with computer operations and research; operates computers for data entry and information retrieval.
- Maintains a schedule of adequate staffing on the service point(s) assigned to adult services.
- Recommends to the library director procedures for the utilization of adult services collection, technology, and physical space by the public; monitors and evaluates procedures for effectiveness on a regular basis.
- Participates with the administrative team to promote Library services to the public.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings to exchange information; attends in-service training and technical or professional workshops, seminars, or conferences to improve technical or professional skills.
- Monitors trends in library adult services and plans, and develops and evaluates programs to improve the provision of services to adults.
- Gathers and maintains information to support periodic and special reports documenting library activities and events. Performs analysis of statistical reports to assist in collection and program development.
- Performs routine office tasks, such as typing, filing, faxing, phoning, and copying.
- Assists patrons with selecting and locating library materials and general library information.
- Assists patrons with research and information retrieval.
