Description

Glendale Community College seeks a leader who is dedicated to all aspects of student success and closing equity gaps, to apply for its Dean of Library and Learning Resources position. GCC seeks a true collaborator who will prioritize our students in decision-making and setting strategy for the College's library and learning resources operations that support teaching and learning. Definition

Under executive direction, plans, directs, and administers instructional support operations for multiple departments, divisions, and/or programs including library services and learning resources; oversees the development of library and instructional materials and resources in support of classes and programs; leads the strategic planning and implementation of distance education; provides oversight of the Learning Commons, the Learning Center and faculty professional development programming; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Supervision

Works under the direct supervision of the Vice President, Instructional Services.

Supervises lower-level managers, faculty, classified staff, temporary, and/or student employees.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties and responsibilities are typical of those performed by employees in this classification.

  • Plans, directs, and administers academic and/or student support operations for multiple departments, divisions, and/or programs, including library services, learning support services, and distance education.


  • Oversees the development of library and instructional materials and resources in support of classes and programs.


  • Leads the strategic planning and the implementation processes for distance education courses that reflect principles of learning theory; supports the implementation of distance education training for students and faculty.


  • Provides oversight of the Learning Commons, the Learning Center and faculty professional development programming.


  • Oversees instructional planning, enrollment management, curriculum development, curriculum review, student learning outcome analysis, and program and course review for assigned academic departments.


  • Oversees the implementation of effective strategies for teaching and learning technologies and methodologies in assigned programs; provides recommendations and makes decisions based on assessment of data and learning outcomes.


  • Handles and resolves conflicts and issues and reports complaints as appropriate.


  • Promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, cultural competency, and a positive work and academic environment.


  • Develops, implements, establishes, and maintains policies, processes, and procedures for applicable departments; monitors and evaluates operational, department, and service quality; may recommend, develop, and implement quality improvement assessment tools and/or methods with administration and/or regulatory agencies.


  • Directs and/or conducts surveys and special studies; maintains program statistics.


  • Develops and implements short- and long-term strategies and plans.


  • Reviews, administers, and monitors budgets for assigned areas which may include grant and special program budgets; approves and administers budget allocations and procurements for all assigned funds as appropriate; analyzes and reviews budgetary and financial data.


  • Submits grant proposals for additional outside funds and resources.


  • Coordinates and oversees the implementation and modification of technology.


  • Supervises department employees; assigns and monitors employee's work and evaluates employee performance; trains employees; participates in employee selection.


  • Monitors and reviews programs and/or operations for legal compliance.


  • Analyzes and interprets data; prepares, reviews, and/or approves documents and reports.


  • May participate and/or chair committees and task forces.


  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The education, training and experience qualifications are considered likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities to perform the above essential duties.

Education and Experience:

Master's degree from an accredited college or university.

Five (5) years of management experience, including experience related to library services, learning resources, or distance education.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL STANDARDS:

Salary

Starting salary: Step 1 $10,721 to Step 6 $13,686 per month, based on training and experience.
Salary range: Step 1 $10,721 to Step 11 $17,958 per month (including longevity steps).
