POSITION: Media Specialist
REPORTS TO: Principal and Director of Instructional Technology and Media Services
POSITION SUMMARY: The Media Specialist, as part of the Instructional Technology and Media Services department, works as a collaborator, change agent, and leader to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. The Media Specialist empowers students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information. Additionally, they ensure equitable access to information and collaborate with teachers to design and implement instruction.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
- Master's degree from a GaPSC accepted educator program
- Certification/License:
- S5 Media Specialist certification or higher required
- T5 or higher in a teaching field, in addition to Media Specialist certification.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Manages library resources to comply with copyright laws and ensures staff and students are informed about copyright guidelines.
- Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance and maintains a professional appearance.
- Selects materials for the library/media center and ensures availability for students and staff.
- Supervises library/media paraprofessional and provides training to develop information search skills for students, teachers, and staff.
- Promotes and organizes reading programs to encourage literacy and engagement with the media center.
- Supervises students while they are in the library/media center and maintains a positive, organized, and attractive learning environment.
- Manages the library collection, ensuring proper acquisition, organization, and accessibility of materials.
- Collaborates with teachers to integrate literature, resources, and information literacy skills into the curriculum.
- Provides leadership in information technologies.
- Evaluates and revises policies, procedures, and services of the media center to continuously improve operations.
- Seeks opportunities for professional growth and participates in professional development activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the principal or appropriate administrator.
