KSL.com is looking for a talented student (paid) intern reporter for the winter of 2024. News interns are full-time reporters who will pitch and write daily Utah news stories, projects and features as part of our positive, hard-working team.
Interns will learn the workflow of publishing to KSL.com, which averages 2.5 million news page views a day. We are committed to providing our readers with the latest, most accurate news so they can be well-informed.
You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with and have your work showcased by Deseret News and our KSL-TV and KSL NewsRadio partners.
The four-month internship is a full-time paid position and can fulfill requirements for school credit. Interns must have a vehicle.
This internship is 40-hours/week for the length of one semester with a start date of January 6.
We love working with self-starting news junkies who pay attention to detail and have great communication skills. The ideal candidate will have:
A passion for breaking news
A competitive drive to be first in the market and to seek out accurate, confirmed information quickly
The ability to write news quickly and accurately on a variety of topics
Solid news judgment
Knowledge of local public figures and news events
A commitment to upholding the brand standards of KSL.com and Deseret Digital Media
The ability to find and write feature stories that highlight the best and brightest people and events in Utah
Qualifications:
Must have completed news writing or reporting classes
Have clippings of published news stories
A working knowledge of AP style
Interviewing skills
What you will gain:
News reporting and gathering skills
Experience in a professional newsroom; mentorship from experienced journalists
An understanding of the daily workings of a newsroom
Published portfolio pieces.
