Parsons Chicago office is seeking a Principal Structural Designer/Drafter with experience in CAD drafting plans for road or rail bridges. The Chicago structural group works on some of the most challenging and fast-paced bridge projects in the industry. Parsons Principal Bridge Designer/Drafters take notes, sketches, mark ups, etc. and formalize them into CAD plan sheets. Rebar detailing and quantity checking are frequently required. Designers need familiarity with common materials and conventions in organizing structural plans for bridges. Responsibilities: Utilize a CAD workstation to prepare engineering drawings consisting of bridge plans, elevations, sections and details, from rough sketches and/or from general engineering and design information, according to established standards and procedures. Work closely with other Designer/Drafters and Engineers to ensure a coordinated design Apply standard drafting/design principles and tools to complete assignments. Compile data and performs dimensional and routine calculations required for the preparation of drawings. Make required changes, additions, and/or revisions, following an established quality cycle of checking, backchecking, correcting and verifying. Manage assembly and delivery of completed drawings sets within the bridge discipline. Qualifications: Associate's or equivalent technical degree or certificate of completion from an accredited designer/drafter course of study. 10+ years of relevant experience. Proficiency with Bentley tools including MicroStation, ProjectWise, and OpenBridge Modeler. Ability to interpret and ensure conformance to applicable standards such as AASHTO, and state DOT CAD standards, and company policies and procedures including the ability to set up workspace environment.
