Position Description

POSITION TITLE: Teacher/Library/Media Specialist

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Valid teaching certificate licensing the individual to teach in the specialization and grade levels, pursuant to WV Code §18A-3-2;

2. Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3- 10, as appropriate; and

3. Meets the qualifications outlined in WV Code §18A-3-2a To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff members.

REPORTS TO: Principal

SALARY:Salary based on experience and education level per MCBOE salary schedule plus competitive benefits package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Teacher:

1. Develops and implements lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of WV College and
Career Readiness, district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation
as required;
2. Uses 21st Century Technology skills to strengthen the teaching/learning process;
3. Delivers rigorous instruction to all students;
4. Prepares lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles;
5. Presents subject matter according to guidelines established by WVDE and board policies, and administrative regulations;
6. Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and
equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned;
7. Conducts assessment of student learning styles and uses results to support school-wide
academic performance goals and instructional activities;
8. Works cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for
special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education
Plans (IEP);
9. Works with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and
methods according to district requirements;
10. Plans and supervises assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s);
11. Helps students analyze and improve study methods and habits;
12. Conducts ongoing assessment of student achievement through formative and informative testing;
13. Assumes responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsors, plans and
implements co-curricular activities/programs, such as curricular fairs, awards programs,
and/or field trips as designated by the principal;
14. Maintains positive role model for students;
15. Supports mission of school district;
16. Creates classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical,
social and emotional development of students;
17. Manages student behavior in accordance with WV Board of Education Policy 4373
(Expected Behavior in Safe and Supportive Schools) and student handbook;
18. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment,
materials and facilities;
19. Establishes and maintains open communication by conducting conferences with
parents, students, principals and teachers to support student learning;
20. Maintains a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community
members;
21. Uses effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly;
22. Participates in staff development activities to improve Standards of Practice for self and
colleagues;
23. Keeps informed and complies with state, district and school regulations and policies for
classroom teachers;
24. Compiles, maintains and files all physical and computerized reports, records and other
documents required;
25. Attends and participates in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required;
26. Adheres to Employee Code of Conduct as outlined in Morgan County School's Policy
3210; and
27. Performs other duties deemed appropriate and assigned by the Superintendent and/or
immediate supervisor(s).

Library/Media Specialist:

1. Keeps adequate records for circulation.

2. Prepares and keeps accurate records for inventory.

3. Prepares and keeps adequate records of purchase orders.

4. Prepares and keeps adequate records of accounts.

5. Promotes student participation in both free-time (recreational) and required reading.

6. Is accessible and proficient as a resource person to both teachers and students.

7. Maintains and circulates upon request audio-visual materials and equipment.

8. Purchases accessions, catalogs, new and donated books for use by students and faculty.

9. Maintains an organized arrangement of materials which promotes self- sufficiency of library users.

10. Promotes special observances of library related holidays and events.

11. Coordinates and conducts library classes and programs.

12. Integrate library programs and materials with curriculum and school activities.

13. Facilitates coordination of library materials and resources with thematic units developed by teachers.

14. Is familiar with and can provide training in the Internet, computer research, media skills, and an automated library system.

15. Coordinate library volunteer program including training, scheduling, and evaluation of performance.

16. Be familiar with and able to coordinate community resources.

17. Is familiar with Windows XP Pro and other current technology, Laser disc player, media station, CD-ROM, video camera, scanner and digital camera.

18. Can perform basic functions related to the basic skills computer lab.

19. Can maintain a school Home Page on the Internet.
