About the Governor's Summer Internship Program (GSI):
The Governor's Summer Internship Program (GSI) is designed to give college students real-world, hands-on experience in their desired field of study to enhance marketability upon graduation. Participation in the program will offer students a multitude of experiences including networking with state employees, resume building and soft skills workshops, agency head panels, and much more.
About the White River State Park:
White River State Park, located in downtown Indianapolis, welcomes nearly 3 million visitors a year to its world-class attractions. Greenspaces, trails, trees, and waterways co-mingle alongside cultural, educational, and recreational attractions across 250 beautiful acres. Attractions at White River State Park include TCU Amphitheater at White River State Park, IMAX Theater, Indianapolis Zoo, Indiana State Museum, Eiteljorg Museum, NCAA Hall of Champions, Central Canal, and Indians Baseball at Victory Field. Role Overview:
This position works with the White River State Park marketing and communications team on the execution of the park's marcom strategy and interacts frequently with park attractions and the Indianapolis tourism industry. The candidate selected should have a desire to grow their career in tourism, marketing, and/or communications. Moderate travel outside of the office setting is necessary and required. Reliable transportation is required. Please note, overall much more time is required outside in various weather conditions and for long periods of time than a typical office setting. Interns are required to spend majority of time interacting with the public.
To be considered for an intern position, candidates must be current students in an accredited college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.
Salary Statement:
The hourly rate for this position is $16.24 for those that do not hold a bachelor's degree & $17.24 for those that hold a bachelor's degree or higher by the time the internship starts.

A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Identify and execute one major project related to agency needs and academic area of study
- Create, develop, and sustain the programmatic efforts for the assigned discipline
- Analyze data and feedback to provide recommendations
- Partner with other relevant stakeholders to promote and enhance the quality of projects
- Collaborate with State of Indiana agencies to ensure effective implementation of internal and external initiatives
- Assist the events team with marketing special events and greenspace rentals
- Create engaging social media content
- Help build and maintain the park's photo and video library
- Create graphics for upcoming events
- Research and assist with creating newsletters, media pitches, and press releases
- Participate in meetings to benefit current and future park initiatives
- Update the White River State Park website
- Perform special projects as assigned by the Executive Director
- Work occasional shifts in the park's Visitor Center
What You'll Need for Success:
- Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate with an accredited post-secondary institution and have completed at least one (1) year of undergraduate education.
- Candidates must be current students in an accredited college, or other qualifying educational institution, pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.
- Academic work in related field
