The Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI) is seeking a Social Media Associate or Social Media Officer (title to be determined based on candidate experience) to join the Communications team. This position reports to the Digital Director. This is a full-time hybrid position, working a minimum of three days a week in our Washington, DC office. NTI is a nonprofit, nonpartisan global security organization focused on reducing nuclear, biological, and emerging technology threats imperiling humanity. We envision a world safe from preventable global catastrophe. We collaborate with governments and organizations to raise awareness, advocate, and implement creative solutions. As an independent and trusted partner, we transcend traditional thinking and stimulate new ways to address urgent threats. The Communications team is responsible for managing NTIs brand, enhancing program impact, and educating and engaging the public through dynamic, outcome-oriented campaigns. You will be responsible for NTIs social media output and engagement. Specifically, you will Manage an active social media content calendar that promotes NTIs activities, experts, and brand to a broad audience Write copy and create content for all official social channels, including Twitter (X), LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Instagram Threads, and Bluesky. Stay engaged with the latest trends, tactics, and technology of social media platforms and the related digital ecosystem Leverage social channels to raise the profile of NTI experts, their work, and their public appearances Monitor performance, sentiment, and discussion of NTIs social media content and online activity related to nuclear, biological, and emerging technology threats. Proactively engage with audience members on social media through comments and direct messaging Serve as brand ambassador for NTI on social media channels, maintaining the organizations reputation as a respected thought leader in the space Integrate social content and strategy into NTIs digital and communications strategies, as well as overarching strategic priorities What are the requirements for the position? Preferred candidates will have: 3-5 years of relevant experience in non-profit organization, advocacy, government, or agency setting with demonstrated track record of leading a social media program Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and nuance Fluency in digital culture, social media best practices, and online communication styles Collaborative spirit that is comfortable working with a wide range of personalities and perspectives A self-starter mentality that will actively pursue opportunities to engage both core and new audiences in creative and compelling ways Bachelors degree in relevant field What will set you apart? Concrete examples of successful social media campaigns that drive engagement, growth, and brand awareness Experience working with online creators, influencers, or VIP personas in social media capacity Experience conducting training related to social media Experience working in a field related to nuclear, biological, and emerging technology threats Proficiency in multimedia production, including graphics, video, and/or audio. Hiring pay range: $66,000 $91,000 annual, depending on prior experience.
