We're seeking a principal UX / Design subject matter expert to lead teams to solve our most complex product design challenges. Contributing to all the activities within product design including user research and testing, interaction design, and visual design, this role should have experience across these activities but should be an expert in at least one. This role is located in New York City, NY – ONSITE/HYBRID/REMOTE.
Growth Ventures is the Bank’s division for managing and building data and software-led businesses, including our market-leading data and analytics business with nearly $50 trillion in financial assets under data management. Growth Ventures, building on this foundation and in partnership with other businesses including Investment Management, Asset Servicing, and Pershing, is bringing to market a new software-led, API-first solution for the alternative investment and wealth management ecosystems. The new business will leverage, connect and enhance existing strengths while also developing market-first solutions that provide a one-of-a-kind experience for partners and clients. The market being targeted is measured in trillions of dollars with revenue pools in billions, yet it is generally considered a nascent space on the precipice of growth. And while we are building from a robust foundation and position of strength, this is very much an entrepreneurial opportunity to innovate and create new products, new solutions, and a new business.
In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:
Leading and driving a consistent vision for UX / UI for alternative funds
Partnership: Seeks deep collaboration with product and program leadership as well as key stakeholders and design leadership across the firm
Skilled manager for a wider design team
Execution-oriented: Willing to contribute to program goals in the form of work-products and specific area objectives such as go-to-market or marketing initiatives
Actively participates and may provide guidance in the creation of concepts, information architecture, user interface designs, wireframes, storyboards, prototypes, and specifications to meet project schedules
Serves as reviewer of usability activities and artifacts to ensure software applications meet customer expectations for use
Ensures that the developed/revised product achieves the user's specified goals by establishing user-centered analysis, design, best practices, and standards
Comprehensive consultation to management and staff related to user research, usability testing, surveys, interviews, work studies, and heuristic evaluations
Reviews documentation of research findings presented to product and development teams
Defines and reviews new and modified user personas
As subject matter expert, actively participates and provides guidance in the creation of concepts, information architecture, user interface designs, wireframes, storyboards, prototypes, and specifications to meet project schedules
Leads the implementation of visual styles that support platform goals, branding, and to increase user effectiveness
Consults on and interprets user feedback and insights to improve the user experience
Serves as reviewer of usability activities and artifacts to ensure software applications meet customer expectations for use
Provides UX expertise to the product definition and evaluation process utilizing multiple sources of information (field work, interviews, internet, intranet, market data/literature)
Acts as principal consult and leads the creation and updating of user interface and visual design guidelines and standards
Advocates for user-centered design and the value of standardized design systems across the firm and facilities training for groups outside the UX team
Ensures that the developed/revised product achieves the user's specified goals by establishing user-centered analysis, design, best practices, and standards
To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:
Bachelor's degree in psychology, user experience, design, human computer interaction or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience required
Advanced degree preferred
10-12 years of experience required
Experience in the securities or financial services industry is a plus

BNY assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $110,000 and $160,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNY total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs. This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
