College Assistant (Hourly) - Communications and College Relations GENERAL DUTIES Under supervision, performs miscellaneous clerical, administrative, research or other work related to the operation of a College or other unit where such work is required on a part-time basis or for a period of limited duration. There is one Assignment Level for this position. All personnel perform related work. This specification describes typical assignments; related duties may be assigned as needed. Maximum tenure for any employee in this hourly position is 1040 hours per year. Performs routine clerical work; may answer and attend to telephone calls; maintain records, operate office machines (such as copier), sort and distribute mail, issue keys and identity cards, act as messenger, and perform related tasks as required. Types letters, memoranda, charts, and similar materials. Acts as cashier. Assists in statistical or research activities. May collect and compile data, code data for computer entry, perform data entry, and run computer reports. Performs clerical library work, such as sorting and shelving books, performing data entry into library systems, or binding books and periodicals. Assists in instructional programs, including tutoring and assisting students in areas such as reading and mathematics. May assist in speech and hearing therapy, provide musical accompaniment, and/or distribute and collect physical education equipment. Enters and maintains departmental records such as inventory control records, rosters, directories, and schedules. May operate computers, computer software, and other electronic equipment in performing assigned tasks. CONTRACT TITLE College Assistant FLSA Non-exempt CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION SCHOOL OF MEDICINE The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY SoM) at The City College of New York (CCNY) located in the heart of Harlem, is the only medical school in the City University of New York system and the only public medical school in Manhattan. Building upon 50 years of success as the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, we transitioned to the CUNY School of Medicine in 2017. POSITION OVERVIEW This is a part time position. The candidate will report to the Director of the Communications & College Relations unit. The incumbent should have a basic understanding of communications, marketing, and public relations and will assist the unit with a variety of tasks which include the following: Assist with press events, social media writing, trend forecasting & market research. Building and maintaining contact lists and managing email marketing campaigns. Work with Graphic Designer, and colleagues in other units to manage logistics and collateral (invitations, programs, master scripts) for signature events. Assist with project coordination, event planning, and day-of event logistics. Draft presentations, news articles, trend reports and press releases, and assist with the coordination and publications for all social media partnerships. May perform additional duties and work on special projects assigned by the Director. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must demonstrate sufficient skills to perform the duties of the assigned tasks. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of the event coordination, public relations, influencers, and social media platforms. Knowledge of copywriting, editing to style guide standards, and meeting editorial deadlines. Knowledge of institutional or brand-based social media content creation and management, including posting, responding to comments, and elevating any concerning issues. Comfort with social media management platforms, such as Hootsuite, as well as producing reels, gifs, and boomerangs, etc., to generate engagement. Intrinsically understands how to work fast yet efficiently, prioritize a vast to-do list Collaborate with internal teams and maintain open communication with senior management Knowledge of content development for digital and traditional print materials, such as event programs, very helpful. Prior experience or internship in event management and communications/marketing in the public sector, higher education, or in medical field a plus. COMPENSATION This is a part-time position of up to 20 hours per week, scheduling of the days can be worked out. Hourly rate is $25.51 per hour commensurate with experience. Appointment is on a per semester basis and subject to budgetary and renewal approval.
