Description The Senior Instrument & Controls (I&C) Designer will lead the design of plant instrument and control systems for a diverse portfolio of EPC project types and clients. This position will work collaboratively utilizing design systems for the production of complex instrumentation & control systems design deliverables. Lead I&C design activities during detailed design and construction phases of the project. Follow all company, client and project design and drafting standards. Lead the project at each phase through various software such as Smart Plant Instrumentation, AutoCAD, MicroStation and Excel to develop the design deliverables. The deliverables may include panel or building layouts, cable schedule, instrument index, instrument location plans, installation details, loop drawings, wiring drawings and termination diagrams. Lead the coordination of I&C design deliverables with other disciplines, particularly Electrical and Piping. Lead drawing, planning, development and production work including problem analysis, design layout and calculations on non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity. Lead a variety of assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques including drawing sequence and presentation, sizing various system components and refining rough sketches. Lead the evaluation of designs or sketches and redlines or mark-ups on ongoing projects for quality assurance. Approve reports, drawings, and tests to plan and lead design projects to meet deliverables. Approve design codes and specifications related to design requirements. Lead production of design drawings within scope, budget and schedule. Perform project tasks and assignments within budgeted hours and deadlines. Compute volume calculations for conduit/grounding layouts, equipment and panel wiring diagrams, and relay panel schematics under the direction of the engineer. Incorporate schedules, budgets and project criteria into I&C design and layouts for project financial goals. Responsible for the quality review of all revisions of project drawings, plot files and project-related information in a logical and well-structured manner. Train, mentor, and develop less experienced drafting, detailing and design staff members. Participate in marketing and possible client development meetings. Responsible for the I&C design QA/QC process. Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all policies and standards Qualifications Bachelor Degree in drafting technology or related field and 13 years related experience Required or Associate Degree and 14 years related experience Required or 15 years progressive detailing and design experience. Required Expert understanding of design software such as: AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Excel to develop the design deliverables. Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs. Expert ability to utilize 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings. Expert knowledge in design, calculations and design systems. Expert knowledge in the theory and practices of assigned discipline; competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to the assigned discipline; and capable of operating related discipline design software necessary to execute production tasks. Work collaboratively with others including, but not limited to clients (Project Managers, Engineers and Designers) in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives. Excellent written & verbal communication skills. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, and attention to detail.
