SUMMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Librarian for Access Services and Outreach will lead the daily operations of the Access Services division. This librarian will work with colleagues to develop policies, procedures, and budget allocations for Access Services. As a member of the library leadership team, this librarian works collaboratively in assessing, developing, and managing key services of the Claire T. Carney Library. Often the first contact for a user or visitor, this librarian is an important ambassador for the library to the community. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent EXPERIENCE: Two years of professional experience (post MLS) in public services in an academic (higher education) or public library setting. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience using the Ex Libris Alma integrated library system. Experience supervising full-time staff and student employees. Experience with Alma, including Alma analytics. Experience managing projects. Experience using evidence-based approaches to support improvements to library services. Three or more years of experience in academic (higher education) libraries. EXAMPLES OF PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides leadership for the Access Services division in circulation, stacks management, reserves, and space management. Leads the development, implementation, updating, and communication of divisional policies and procedures. Establishes and communicates service expectations, standards, priorities, and staff training/development plans. Performs access services related functions within the integrated library system and other library systems Coordinates staff coverage for library operating hours. Oversees hiring and training of student employees. Maintains schedule for use of reservable library space. Represents Access Services in division head meetings. Communicates effectively with campus police, facilities, and hired security. Develops and manages divisional budget in collaboration with the Library Dean. Develops and implements plans to assess Access Services functions and student use of library spaces using both qualitative and quantitative methods. Uses this data to improve library services. Works with colleagues across the library to develop workflows and procedures related to collection management, user accounts, and other access services functions. Leads and participates in cross-divisional teams to advance the Libraries' mission. Works with departments across the university to enhance the student experience, coordinating general tours and orientations to the library. Collaborates with colleagues on marketing initiatives Works with campus stakeholders to assess library needs and improve services Engages in and contributes to the profession through continuing learning, service, research, presentations, or professional communications. Perform other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: MLS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution or international equivalent. Minimum of three years of library experience in public services or access services demonstrating increasing leadership responsibilities. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build positive relationships with colleagues and peers (e.g. through committees, projects, teams, etc.). Demonstrated knowledge of integrated library systems/library services platforms and other Access Services related technologies. The ability to communicate effectively, listen well, and respond to student, staff, and faculty needs. Demonstrated commitment to contributing to a culturally diverse educational and work environment.
