An excellent opportunity for a Structural Designer to work for a growing global mining, energy and resources company and feel you could be very suited to the role. This is a full time direct hire position located in their Houston office.
As a
Structural Designer , you will be responsible for the development of structural (steel and concrete) 3D models, general arrangements, 2D detailed drawings, and preparation of material take-offs in accordance with project requirements under the supervision of Project Lead Structural Designer. You will work closely with designers of other disciplines and be responsible for all drafting deliverables related to structural discipline. You will need to apply industry standards and /or engineering principles at a conceptual level.
Specific Responsibilities: Develop 2D drawings and 3D models according to project’s technical standards and technical specifications. Ensure design, drafting and modelling comply with company procedures and project requirements. Drafting checking (format, fit and dimensional) of detailed drawings and models. Inter-discipline coordination to ensure deliverables meet the intended purpose, functions and standards of the project. Apply time management skills to ensure project timelines and schedules are met. Complete work in a timely fashion with a diligent attitude, while focusing on safety during work and safety in designs. Participation in innovative solutions for designs, workflow, and procedures.
Qualifications, skills, abilities and experience we are looking for: 3 – 10 years experience in the mineral processing industry or any similar heavy industry practicing structural design. Vocational Diploma (DEP) or Associate Degree (or higher) in General Drafting or a related field is desirable. Relevant industry experience will also be considered. Experience in development of layouts, detail drawings, 3D modelling, and experience with multidisciplinary projects. Strong aptitude for technical problem-solving and the ability to independently develop design concepts from high-level engineering inputs Familiarity with Building Information Modelling (BIM) and using 3D workflows, prioritizing design intent over traditional 2D drafting. High level understanding of structural standards (both imperial and metric), best practices, and regional design codes. Adherence to company drafting standards and procedures. Expertise or familiarity with Autodesk Advance Steel and AutoCAD. Skilled designers proficient in other software suites are encouraged to apply. Revit proficiency is a plus. Produces high quality work that is clear and efficient. Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills. (English) Focused on details and closing out works. Ability to work independently. Driven to learn, gain new experience. Ability to handle stress and demands of continuous change.
