Qualifications Position Summary:
The Equipment Designer will design, troubleshoot, and seek opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation of the clients proprietary equipment for the installation and operation of Direct Reduced Iron making plants and new technology initiatives.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Equipment Designer does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
Duties/Responsibilities: Utilize CAD software to create mechanical drawings for the basic and detailed engineering of a plant. Proficient in the use of Inventor, AutoCAD software, and related Autodesk products. Take conceptual designs, sketches, and ideas from engineers and designers to develop the details necessary for a complete, engineered drawing package capable of being used for purchasing, fabrication, erection in the field, and design analysis. Travel to plant sites to perform analyses of existing equipment, ducting routes, and equipment layouts for use in developing future layouts and proposals. Travel to fabrication facilities to perform mechanical equipment inspections, testing, and verify adherence to designs and tolerances. Travel on business trips and/or field assignments as required to carry out departmental tasks and functions. Perform checking of mechanical equipment drawings for consistency with conceptual ideas, design, and sketches. Assist senior designers and engineers by suggesting design changes that might improve the desired results of the design. Assist with project documentation, including Requisitions, Specifications, Quality Documents, Operation and Maintenance Manuals, and other technical documents as required to carry out departmental tasks and functions. Work as a teammate with all company departments and employees in all assignments. Work toward building consensus on all assignments by finding solutions which meet the best interests of all parties involved.
Skills/Abilities:
Required: Advanced computer skills including use of Microsoft Office and Autodesk products. Proficient in use of AutoCAD and Inventor or equivalent software. Excellent technical writing and interpersonal skills. Multi-task while meeting schedule and deliverable deadlines.
Preferred: Advanced 3D modeling skills and the use of Vault. Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables and developing lists for engineering. Perform basic mechanical and system calculations. Coordinate design schedules with engineers. Understand P&ID’s for use in equipment design and system checking. International travel experience. Industrial plant experience. Willingness to stay for extended periods at a plant site.
Education and Experience: Associate Degree in a mechanical discipline, or a minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience in a technical environment.
Travel Requirements: 10% - 30% International and Domestic based upon project demands and periodically more during specific project stages.
