Ideal candidate is located in the Lancaster, PA area - position requires frequent travel to Lancaster General Health facilities, as well as some travel to other health Penn Medicine facilities in Philadelphia and other areas the health system serves.
Summary:
The Communications Specialist is a member of the Regional Communications team and supports day-to-day operations, projects, and initiatives at Lancaster General Health and other Penn Medicine regional entities, as needed. The Specialist will collaborate across the broader Penn Medicine Communications team to support the execution of internal and external communications strategies and storytelling efforts.
The Communications Specialist-Regional Communications supports the Penn Medicine Communications Department in the execution of internal and external communications strategies. This role assists in the development, production, and distribution of web-based and traditional publications, media outreach materials, and internal communications. In addition, the Communications Specialist will lead selected projects, collaborate on media relations efforts, and assist in the creation and management of content across multiple internal and external platforms. The role requires a strong understanding of communications best practices, excellent writing skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Responsibilities:
Assist digital/web staff in the maintenance of the Department's web page and social media properties. Assist Department in generating and posting content over social media (e.g. Facebook). Assist with the monitoring and measurement of Penn Medicine's traditional and social media coverage and maintenance of departmental archives. Lead the project management and writing for one or more monthly or annual print/digital publications under the guidance of a more senior editor. Assist Department staff in media relations, publications and internal publications with duties related to written communications activities including press releases, announcements, invitations to cover, and articles for internal publications, memos, and newsletters. May work with members of the media to arrange interviews or other opportunities for press coverage and escort media while on campus. Serve as primary contact for up to two departments/divisions with responsibility for planning and coordinating media outreach, pitching stories to members of the news media, and related writing duties. Assist in the preparation of selected institutional news releases, articles, Invitations to Cover, RSS feeds and multimedia content (photos, videos, audio files) for publication to the web. Assist in the production of media reports. Maintain and update media lists. Education or Equivalent Experience: Bachelor of Arts or Science Communications, public relations, journalism, or related (Required) And 1+ years experience in a communications role, preferably in healthcare, non-profit, or media environments. Demonstrated experience managing communication projects from concept to completion, including print and digital publications. Experience with digital communications tools, including social media platforms, content management systems, and email marketing platforms.
