Job Description

This search is hiring to fill three (3) open Instruction and Outreach Librarian positions. Each librarian will support one of the following schools: Humanities and Social Sciences, Health and Natural Sciences, and Business.

Summary of Position

Under the general direction of the Library Director, the Instruction and Outreach Librarian is responsible for managing and delivering instructional services and outreach programs to enhance the learning and research experiences of Augsburg students. This position fosters collaboration with faculty, students, and staff across the university and contributes to the development of library instruction and research services.

Primary Responsibilities

Instructional Services:

  • Develop, deliver, and assess library instruction sessions to support information literacy and research skill development for students.
  • Create and maintain asynchronous instructional materials, including tutorials, research guides, and online learning objects.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff colleagues to integrate library resources and information literacy into the curriculum and instructional design.

Reference and Research Services:

  • Provide in-depth reference services and research consultations to individuals and groups.
  • Create and maintain research guides and other online resources to support academic programs and research initiatives.
  • As part of a team, staff an on-call research assistance schedule to provide on-demand support for faculty, students, and staff in person and online during set hours that may include evenings or weekends.

Outreach and Engagement:

  • Serve as the primary liaison to assigned academic departments, developing strong relationships with faculty, students, and staff colleagues in other departments.
  • Plan, implement, and/or support campus wide outreach programs and events to promote library services and resources to the Augsburg community.
  • Participate in campus events and activities to engage with the university community.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain timely and accurate statistics on instruction sessions, research consultations, and library events.
  • Participate in collection management projects, including weeding and resource evaluation.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of library policies and procedures.
  • Engage in professional development activities on and off campus to stay current with trends and best practices in instruction, outreach, and library services.
  • Other duties as apparent or assigned by supervisor(s).

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Typical work environment is an office or classroom setting. Sedentary work for long periods of time.
  • Regular computer and phone use.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying of items up to 20 lbs.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited institution at the date of hire.
  • Demonstrated experience with or interest in providing research support in a library setting.
  • Demonstrated experience with or interest in information literacy instruction and assessment in a library setting.
  • Demonstrated experience with or interest in library programming in a library setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) to three (3) years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated experience or interest in developing asynchronous instructional materials.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching, especially in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated experience serving users from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and/or academic backgrounds.

  • Commitment to working with a diverse community of learners.
