Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Strategic Communication, the Social Media Manager will plan, develop, produce, publish, and manage engaging original content for UCLA Extension's primary social media accounts. The incumbent will be the main producer in crafting social media content to increase engagement among key audiences (students, alumni, community partners, and the broader public) and tell our stories through various mediums including photography, text, images, and video.
With a high level of autonomy, the Social Media Manager will develop, implement, and evaluate strategic plans to meet established goals and objectives on all official social media channels of UCLA Extension, following through with content from planning to posting to data analysis on performance. Working alongside and in alignment with the editorial, copywriting, and creative team, the incumbent will act as the primary content creator for social media, raising awareness and understanding of UCLA Extension across various key audiences (internally/externally). They will manage day-to-day operations relating to social media as well as maintain and grow UCLA Extension's social media channels and presence on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and possibly other platforms. As the primary representative of UCLA Extension on social media, they will build strong relationships with campus partners, academic departments, and members of the media to ensure the organizational brand, story, news, programs, and initiatives have broad reach for an online audience. They will also be required to monitor and report on online communication crises outside of normal business hours when necessary.
Lastly, the position will also supervise 1 to 2 student assistants who will perform tasks in support of this position's vision and direction.
Salary & Compensation
UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common.

Qualifications
- 3 years Minimum years of progressively responsible professional experiences in public relations, communications, or marketing with experience working on management or content creation for social media. (Required)
- Thorough technical skills in applications for photography, videography, photo and video editing, and writing for social media. (Required)
- Exceptional professional-level writing and thorough editing skills; Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills, including a strong sense of a good story and understanding of the topics that may be of interest to various audiences on social media platforms and will incorporate key location messages. (Required)
- Highly collaborative style with experience developing, implementing, and leading social media communications strategies successfully. (Required)
- Tech savvy and advanced technical skills and knowledge of common social media platforms, relevant applications, and requirements of the assigned work; willingness to keep abreast of industry trends, technologies, and to learn new software and systems. (Required)
- Thorough skills to create clear, easy-to-navigate/read, informative, accurate, well-designed, and functional social media campaigns consistent with UNEX's mission, brand, stories, programs, and initiatives and in keeping with management directives and scheduling cadence. (Required)
- Exceptional research and analytical skills sufficient to analyze problems in a multifaceted way and to develop and implement innovative solutions as well as track the effectiveness of different techniques/methods. (Required)
- Exceptional knowledge and skills in effectively utilizing all news / media mediums including broadcast news, the internet, social media and other emerging technologies; diligently researching across all mediums to find and compile interesting and relevant content. (Required)
- Strong ability in cultivating lasting relationships with colleagues across departments, campus, and external media contacts. (Required)
- Strong ability to manage time and meet multiple deadlines including prioritizing and tracking complex and competing schedules within the context of a fast-paced environment that is subject to last-minute changes; proactively anticipate and complete tasks; Strong good judgment, political acumen, and thorough organization skills. (Required)
- Skill to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations. (Required)
- Ability to supervise student employees, including hiring, orienting, training, organizing workflow, monitoring and evaluating performance, and coaching and counseling when necessary. (Required)
- Experience in higher education organizations/industry; Additional experience in marketing copywriting, speech writing, news/feature writing, magazine writing, graphic design, web design or other related field. (Preferred)
Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
- Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, marketing or related field and / or equivalent experience / training. (Required)
Special Conditions for Employment
