Job Description
BQMI has a rewarding position supporting the NASA Safety and Mission Assurance Engineering Contract (SMAEC III) at the Johnson Space Center in Houston helping to continue our exploration of space. Come join our team and help us continue the mission of space exploration.
This position offers an exciting and challenging opportunity to support NASA’s Gateway program. As the Extravehicular Activity and Human Surface Mobility (EHP) Integrated Hazard Analysis (IHA) author, you will apply your knowledge and expertise of EVA safety requirements, processes, tools and products to develop mission level safety analyses of NASA human spaceflight missions. You will be responsible for ensuring the integrated mission design and proposed operations comply with all applicable Safety and Mission Assurance (S&MA) requirements, and that all flight safety risks have been identified, characterized and mitigated within the EHP hazard reports. Some travel to vendors, prime contractor sites, and/or vehicle processing centers may be required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
· Support Systems Requirement Review, Preliminary and Critical Design Reviews of EHP systems hardware, provide engineering evaluations against design and safety requirements.
· Serve as the EVA Author for the Gateway Integrated Hazard Analysis Reports
· Serve as the primary safety, reliability, and quality assurance (SRQA) representative to the EHP for the Integrated Hazard Analysis (IHA) development
· Assure the technical adequacy of analyses developed for the Gateway Program.
· This position will require extensive oral and written interaction with high level customer personnel.
· Participate in the Gateway forums to provide S&MA engineering support in vehicle development.
· Ensures accuracy and delivery of products including Program Integrated Hazard Causes assigned to the program elements, development, update, and issuance of the cross program integrated hazard cause records and Program Integrated Hazard Analysis.
· Coordinates and negotiates with the EHP elements to identify, resolve, or initiate actions to resolve issues that impact the Integrated Hazard Causes assigned to the Program elements or to resolve issues for causes assigned to other program elements.
· Provide technical engineering support to NASA Gateway Program Representatives to decision-making boards and panels.
· Review and assess safety analysis hazard reports, requirement non-compliances, and support programmatic safety reviews.
· Evaluate safety and mission assurance impacts of proposed engineering changes to EHP hardware and processes.
· Assess Failure Modes and Effects Analyses and Critical Items for S&MA engineering for accuracy and completeness.
· Assess Gateway hardware Problem Reports to ensure that they capture safety and reliability issues.
Essential Skills:
· Solid understanding of engineering and/or safety disciplines
· Experience in operational procedure development or evaluation is desirable.
· Systems Engineering experience is desired. Spacecraft vehicle and system knowledge is desired.
· NASA S&MA experience is desirable.
· Basic knowledge and use of personal computer with typical business software.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills are mandatory.
· Must be able to travel (minimal) and work shifts periodically.
· Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.
Experience/Education:
· BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline (eg.: Math, Physics, etc.)
· 4+ years' experience in operations and/or engineering
Personality or self-management skills:
· Must be able to work independently
· Must be comfortable interfacing with a variety of individuals at all levels
· Must be self-motivated to work remotely, in an office or in a technical environment
· Must be available to work on-site as required
· Must be available to support shift work and/or weekend work as required
