Overview and Responsibilities:
Paramount Tech is hiring a Director of Broadcast Distribution and Transmission. This individual will provide technical and operational leadership, guidance, and support within the Broadcast Distribution unit for all business units as well as external clients.
The Director will act as the lead subject matter expert for live event planning for Sports, News, and Entertainment. This includes executing complex transmission plans that support daily broadcasts. This role includes troubleshooting, problem resolution, and ensuring all inbound and outbound signals meet or exceed the CBS Network's technical standards.
This position will provide direction and interface with satellite uplink and terrestrial transmission vendors to optimize signal quality to and from production remotes. As well as directly managing systems administration tasks, software upgrades, documentation, and bug fixes for highly complex broadcast and transmission systems.
As a leader of the NY and LA Transmission Teams, the Director is also responsible for writing and training on all technical and operational standard operating procedures as well as managing operators to support a 24x7 environment.
Basic Qualifications:
• Proven experience in live to air television and/or remote field operations with responsibility for audio/video/data quality and continuity and signal workflows.
• Hands-on experience setting up and operating transmission facility hardware such as satellite receivers, antennas, encoders, and router control panels and test equipment.
• Advanced knowledge of RF modulation, MPEG4 and HEVC compression, multiplexing, encryption, and data transport standards. Knowledge of IP and SMPTE-2110 standards preferred.
Additional Qualifications:
• 7+ years' experience working in distribution transmission engineering and operations in a supervisory capacity.
• Experience managing Union staff is preferred.
• Ability to manage media facility projects from design through deployment.
• Coordinate new equipment and technical installations with Engineering.
• Self-managing individual with excellent interpersonal and communication skills who can work in a team environment.
• Strong attention to details.
• Excellent communication skills, oral and written to document and escalate technical matters. Proficiency with PC based Microsoft Office products.
• Ability to quickly diagnose and resolve RF, satellite, and fiber technical issues to maintain on air operations.
• Experience with technical writing and design documentation.
• Experience with various streaming technologies and distribution platforms.
• Technical education preferred; 4-year degree, equivalent military or work experience.
This role is on-site at the CBS Broadcast Center in NY and may require night and weekend coverage based on the needs of production schedules.
Additional Information:
Hiring Salary Range: $160,000.00 - 175,000.00. The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program, and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
