JOB DESCRIPTION
- FULL TIME
Plays a key role in advancing scholarly communication by staying informed about emerging technologies and AI developments. Develops resources and training materials to help researchers navigate the evolving scholarly communication landscape, ensuring the library remains a hub for innovation and academic success. Focuses on supporting research and instruction by teaching classes, developing instructional materials, and providing expert guidance to students and faculty, including preparing and delivering instructional videos and online tutorials to enhance information literacy and research skills. Stays current with new technologies to integrate them into instructional practices. Provides reference services to assist users with research inquiries, ensuring access to essential academic resources. Manages the library's electronic resources, including databases and ebooks. Acts as a liaison to assigned departments.

MLS or MLIS Degree or an equivalent
Second Master's degree preferred (in area of specialization)

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Integrate AI and other digital technologies into library services and spaces to improve library operations and user experience.
- Explore, integrate, and promote programs enhancing the use of AI, digital tools, and library digital resources across disciplines and within interdisciplinary activities.
- Teach library instruction sessions for general education, upper division, and graduate classes as needed
- Provide reference service (research help, etc.)
- Manages the Library's collection of electronic resources (databases, ebooks, and AI and 3D software), including contacts/meetings with vendors, troubleshooting problems patrons have with databases.
- Prepare instruction videos; attend meetings; manage Digital Showcase
- Meet with faculty regularly, both at scheduled meetings and proactively to facilitate input for collection development and to support research needs.
- Create and maintain library guides and web pages in support of library services and needs of students and faculty.
- Manages the journals' irenewals/ additions/ deletions, ensures that online journals are accessible.
- Other duties assigned as needed.
EDUCATION:
MLS or MLIS Degree or an equivalent
Second Master's degree preferred (in area of specialization)
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Experience with research and instruction through the teaching of classes, developing instructional materials, and providing expert guidance to students and faculty
- Knowledge of and experience with Springshare's suite of library tools (e.g., LibGuides), and an electronic resources management tool.
- Familiarity with acquisitions, cataloging, and electronic management within an academic library and competency working with a library ILS.
- Knowledge of and experience with discovery platforms, MARC, EZProxy, OCLC, Oasis collection development system, COUNTER and other usage statistics, OpenURL, integrated library systems (III Sierra in particular), familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience working with the EBSCO platform in particular, as well as other major library platforms (ProQuest; Gale: Sage; Elsevier, etc.).
- Knowledgeable about licensing and contract language when negotiating.
- Must have the ability to work effectively and efficiently under stress and seasonal workload; perform detailed, repetitive procedures; understand, assimilate, and execute written and verbal instructions; set priorities, organize, and manage workload; and concentrate and be alert to details.
- Previous public services experience, preferably in an academic library.
- Proactive, responsible, creative in problem solving, flexible in adapting to change, with strong service ethic and commitment to excellence and to helping students learn and succeed.
- Excellent interpersonal written and oral and communication skills.
- Solid grasp of library procedures and services and effective patron interaction.
- Excellent research skills and solid grasp of library sources both electronic and print, including databases, reference books, Internet searching, journals and other resources.
- Ability to effectively engage and instruct students in research skills and information literacy in one-to-one sessions and through virtual communication channels, including email, chat, and other online methods.
- Ability to proactively and professionally interface with faculty members regarding research assistance and other professional interactions.
- Excellent technical skills, including library systems, Microsoft Office and other common computer applications, and the ability to learn and adopt new technologies as needed.
- Demonstrated professional behavior, including the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team and problem solve creatively.
