The Chicago Tribune is seeking a senior content editor to play a key role in shaping our local news report, supervising reporters and editors and coordinating coverage between newspapers and departments and providing direct support to our suburban teams.
What you will do:
- Serve as a liaison with our suburban staffs, elevating stories, providing a second read on the most sensitive pieces, communicating with Tribune editors about suburban stories and vice versa
- Supervise experienced Tribune metro reporters, assigning and editing unique and relevant pieces on developing news and enterprise storiesshort-, medium- and long-termthat will contend for page one Sunday and during the week
- Help guide reporting efforts on breaking news and ongoing enterprise projects that bridge departments of the newsroom and different newspapers in our group
- Work with other editors and reporters to find opportunities to develop skills through reporting and editing teams and training
- Assist in filling staffing holes, including screening, interviewing and onboarding job candidates
What you will bring:
- A strong foundation for newsgathering and news judgment built on decades of reporting or editing breaking stories, major enterprise pieces and investigative projects
- Creativity, doggedness and problem-solving skills in addressing challenges around idea generation, roadblocks in newsgathering and personnel challenges
- Passion for upholding the Tribune standards for fairness and accuracy, ethics and quality journalism while nurturing a collaborative, collegial spirit on the editing team
