The Magazine Creative Designer is responsible for conceptualization and implementation of design solutions that meet marketing strategies for OSV magazines. The Magazine Creative Designer will play the lead role in creating concepts, comps, layouts, and final art working within established deadlines for magazine products.
The Magazine Creative Designer should demonstrate a high level of proficiency in design, multimedia software and applications, such as Adobe Creative Suite.
Essential Job Functions:
Magazine design and layout
Assigns photo projects and processes vendor invoices
Participate in Editorial development meetings
Communicate with photographers and illustrators
Attend meetings as assigned
Works with Freelance vendors on projects as needed
Requirements:
Experience:
5 years of work experience in magazine and/or newspaper layout
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field of study preferred or a combination of experience and education.
Minimum of five (5) years of work-related experience
Skills and Abilities:
Strong graphic, typography design skills
Able to take projects from start to finish with minimal supervision
A complete and thorough proficiency with Adobe InDesign, Adobe, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat
A through understanding of four-color prepress and magazine/newspaper layout principles and their application in a Macintosh OS environment
The ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively with teams of editors, designers and marketing staff
Incumbent must be able to travel for training which could be 1 or 2 times per year for 1 – 3 consecutive days
Working Environment:
Magazine Creative Designer will have the freedom of judgment in the area of design technique but most decisions are made within the framework of our established styles and Catholic oriented aesthetic.
Incumbent will work with the editorial editors, marketing staff and production staff on a daily basis
Incumbent will work with freelance designers and photographers on a weekly or monthly basis
Some pre-release content not for public consumption such as new products and redesigned publications could be miss handled. Externally our reputation or competitive position could be compromised.
90% or more of incumbents time will be spent on the computer
Incumbent must be able to sit for long periods of time as 99% of the time is spent sitting
The incumbent will work within an office environment and/or remote and/or hybrid
