Job Description:
With preliminary direction from a licensed architect, participate in the pre-design/planning and all design and construction phases of large-scale educational/institutional projects including renovations, additions, and new construction on K-12 and higher education projects, as well as campus planning projects; develop design documents for all design phases, schematic design through construction documents including documenting architectural plans, elevations, and details in imperial or metric standards for jurisdictional agency corrections using 2D/3D modeling software, mainly Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD, as well as other related BIM, 2D and 3D Modeling software; translate clients' functional and spatial requirements for structures into feasible design solutions, incorporating custom detailing, structural engineering principles and building systems into architectural designs; coordinate conceptual design drawings with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection (MEP/FP), civil, structural, lighting, A/V, telecom, graphics, interiors and landscape consultants to incorporate building systems into architectural designs to produce construction documentation and secure client and regulatory approval; utilize sketches, photographs, notes, and other input material to determine best approaches for completion of drawings to solve technical issues of design in relation to sites, buildings, and client needs; build physical models using digital fabrication software, 3D printers, and laser cutter for design development and presentations; set up the context model environment and settings for VR architectural visualization for advanced design presentation options for the client(s), as well as to use as in house design reviews; design exterior envelope as well as interior finishing requiring enlarged plans, elevations, sections, details, and axonometric drawings; provide material and product research and analysis appropriate for projects requirements and clients satisfaction; research and draft details and schedules specifically designed for a given project in preparations for construction; assist in the implementation of firm-wide strategies and collaborate with design teams to ensure sustainable design success, provide support and guidance firm-wide, and focus on the seamless rollout of sustainable design implementation in office design projects including urban design, transportation, retail, and international multistory and high-rise buildings; work in conjunction with sustainable design leadership in the continued improvement and development of high-performance design to maintain and improve the quality and consistency of design environment and deliverables; coordinate with contractor and owner to make sure the overall design intent is achieved throughout the construction process; organize, file and distribute documents utilizing Procore, CMiC, Newforma software, BIM360 and other construction coordination software; fulfill general contractors requests for information (RFIs), submittals, and change order requests; assist in responding to Requests for Qualifications (RFQs), Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and design competitions; coordinate with civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection (MEP/FP), lighting, landscape, code, traffic, parking, kitchen, zoning, signage, acoustic, security, curtain wall, faade maintenance, special systems, geotechnical, vertical transportation, and structural consultants to incorporate engineering systems into unified design; perform necessary modifications of drawings and specifications as construction projects progress and changes in dimensions, materials, and other aspects of design arise from client, agency or public input; apply architectural principles to review all related shop drawings, samples, mockups, and cut sheets on materials and equipment; make corrections as indicated by Project Architect and Design Director to in-progress sets of design development and construction documents; review of structural construction for architectural coordination, HVAC system layout and installation, installation of lighting fixtures, and installation of electrical equipment; assist project manager or architect in project closeout, such as final inspections, preparation of punch list, record drawings, and post occupancy review; execute site visits, field observation, and meetings to review the progress of construction.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor of Architecture (5 year) or foreign equivalent plus 3 years of experience to include participating in the pre-design/planning and all design and construction phases of large-scale educational/institutional projects including renovations, additions, and new construction on K-12 and higher education projects; developing design documents for all design phases, schematic design through construction documents including documenting architectural plans, elevations, and details using 2D/3D modeling software, mainly Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD; supporting the translation of clients' functional and spatial requirements into feasible design solutions; assisting in the coordination of conceptual design drawings with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection (MEP/FP), civil, structural, lighting, A/V, telecom, to incorporate building systems into architectural designs to produce construction documentation and secure client and regulatory approval; utilizing sketches, photographs, notes, and other input material to solve technical issues of design in relation to buildings and client needs; designing interior finishing requiring enlarged plans, elevations, sections, details, and axonometric drawings; providing material and product research and analysis for projects requirements and clients satisfaction; assisting in the implementation of firm-wide strategies and collaborating with design teams to ensure sustainable design success, and sustainable design implementation in office design projects; supporting the project team managing projects with the contractor and owner to make sure the overall design intent is achieved; fulfilling general contractors requests for information (RFIs), submittals, and change order requests; coordinating with civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection (MEP/FP), lighting, landscape, code, traffic, parking, kitchen, zoning, signage, acoustic, security, special systems, geotechnical, vertical transportation, and structural consultants to incorporate engineering systems into unified design; performing necessary modifications of drawings and specifications as construction projects progress and changes in dimensions, materials, and other aspects of design arise from client, agency or public input; applying architectural principles to review shop drawings, samples, and cut sheets on materials and equipment; making corrections as indicated by Project Architect and Design Director to in-progress sets of design development and construction documents.
