POSITION SUMMARY: The Web Designer works in a team-oriented environment in the Office of Communications to design, test, and document the user interfaces for Pomona College websites and other digital properties. The Web Designer coordinates and provides training and support for the College's web content management system (Drupal) and other web-based tools. This role works closely with the Web Developer and assists campus departments with general website updates.
Reporting directly to the Director, Communications Technology & Strategy, the Web Designer performs and works collaboratively within the Office of Communications and with campus partners to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities:
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND CRITICAL SKILLS: This position must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the job or must be able to demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed (with or without reasonable accommodation) using other knowledge, skills and abilities not listed below.
REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this full-time position are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday - Friday. Overtime, holiday, weekend and evening work hours may be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division.
ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS: Regular, full-time, non-exempt position. The salary for this role is between $34.32 to $39.89, per hour. The specific factors that the College will consider when offering a salary to an individual will include, but not be limited to: education, training, relevant prior experience, and performance in prior role. All staff positions are ineligible for visa or permanent resident card sponsorship. As a California employer, Pomona College requires all employees to be residents of California.

- Design appealing web interfaces and interactive web compontents for the College's website and other digital properties (e.g. email templates, forms, etc.).
- Manage general day-to-day web update requests made by the campus community and manage a customer service email account for such requests.
- Generate functional HTML/CSS for review by clients and developers.
- Lead feature requirement Drupal? sessions with campus clients, and identify use cases for currently offered features.
- Support hosted web sites and blogs created by campus authors.
- Assist in administering the College's content management systems (e.g. Drupal, Trumba Calendar, WordPress).
- Import online alumni magazine content three times a year, prior to each new issue being mailed.
- Perform special projects/tasks/duties and provide assistance as assigned.

- Deploy professional skills in web design, in collaboration with colleagues, to best promote the College's strategic interests.
- HTML, CSS & CSS preprocessors (e.g. SASS, LESS), and Javascript (including common libraries like jQuery)
- Familiar with server side languages (e.g. PHP)
- Experience with mobile first/responsive design principles and popular frameworks (e.g. Tailwind, Bootstrap, CSS Flexbox)
- Experience working with popular content management systems (e.g. Drupal, WordPress)
- Experience with email coding/design best practices
- Experience with form creation systems (e.g. Formstack, Qualtrics)
- Familiar with version control systems such as Git or SVN
- Familiar with web browser compatibility variances
- Demonstrate effective, accurate and clear communication with excellent/strong verbal, written, interpersonal, reading, phone, and customer service skills.Follow all written and verbal instructions, asking questions as needed for clarification of projects/tasks/duties/assignments.
- Operate computers proficiently with basic Microsoft Office software (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Adobe Creative Suite software (such as Photoshop, InDesign).
- Work effectively within web accessibility (WCAG) standards.
- Collaborate professionally with developers, photographers/videographers, designers and campus clients/partners.
- Handle all activities and highly confidential information with patience, discretion, good judgment, courtesy and tact while working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
- Use exceptional/strong organizational and time management skills to complete work with accuracy and a keen attention to detail.
