We invite you to be part of this mission. We’re looking for a Senior Editor to join our Communications and Marketing team. In this role, you will help identify and create written and multimedia stories that explain our faculty research and illuminate the GSB experience and impact to a global audience. You will have the opportunity to work with faculty, staff, and alumni in creating compelling stories. In addition, you will assign and manage a pool of freelance writers and collaborate closely with other team members within the department. This role reports to the Senior Director of Content & Design and works closely with another senior editor and a team of multimedia content producers to produce a print magazine, an email newsletter, and a wide range of other content. In 2025, you will have the opportunity to develop content in a variety of formats to celebrate the school’s Centennial. The ideal candidate has extensive journalism experience, keen and creative storytelling skills, a collaborative approach, and a desire to explore and try new ideas. You’ll need to understand varied audiences and bear in mind the broad communication goals of the school. You will bring experience working with faculty or senior-level professionals and enjoy working in a dynamic and creative environment. This is a hybrid position, with a minimum of two days a week spent on the Stanford campus. Your primary responsibilities include: Identify, assign, and edit written stories to: Illuminate the impact and experience of the GSB community and programs; Report on timely news and events; Share knowledge and insights from faculty, students, alumni, and renowned leaders. Partner with podcast, multimedia, design, social media, and web teams to ensure effective storytelling across all channels. Work with faculty, senior leadership, alumni, and business leaders to develop rich content that supports Stanford GSB communications objectives. Contribute to the production and editing of Stanford Business magazine. Manage ongoing Voices profiles and other content series. May manage biweekly email newsletter. Recruit and manage freelance writer pool. May manage budget and negotiate contracts with vendors. May supervise interns or editorial assistants. To be successful in this position, you will bring: Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant work experience or combination of education and relevant experience. Demonstrated ability to oversee all aspects of the editorial and publication process. Demonstrated advanced communications skills (such as editorial, public relations, etc.) and the ability to synthesize material from multiple sources. Demonstrated ability to determine publication and editorial approaches. Proven success in writing for publication in print, web, social media, and other platforms highly preferred. Extensive experience managing and coordinating complex editorial and publication projects. Experience in higher education is a significant plus. Expert-level knowledge of job-required tools and applications. Demonstrated ability to manage and allocate department resources. Demonstrated ability to lead and apply ingenuity and creativity in solving complex problems. Demonstrated ability to apply discretion and judgment in evaluating implications of information release to internal and external audiences. Able to work a flexible hybrid schedule with a minimum of two days a week on campus and the ability to be on campus as needed for job-related events and activities. Occasional work on evenings and weekends. Candidates should expect to provide writing samples and perform an editorial exercise as a part of the evaluation process. The expected pay range for this position is $145,616 to $169,645 per year. At Stanford University, base pay represents only one aspect of the comprehensive rewards package.
