Job Description
The role is leading a team of scoops-oriented reporters to cover equity and debt transactions involving commercial properties in Australia and produce related content that would be of high interest to CRE market professionals. Our U.S. newsletters, Real Estate Alert and Commercial Mortgage Alert, have been covering the sector for 30-plus years. Our reporting teams in North American and Europe are committed to telling readers what they are not supposed to know about the latest on deals and dealmakers in the CRE equity and debt markets. Our publications and news sites are widely recognized among real estate professionals for their sophisticated, cutting-edge reporting.
Responsibilities
- Work with the Editor-in-Chief and senior team members to lead content strategy and set coverage priorities, with the goal of establishing Green Street News as the No. 1 source of exclusive CRE news and analysis
- Report scoops about listings, deals under contract, closings, financings, development projects and other relevant news (e.g., people moves), while serving as a player coach to team members who need help developing sources and digging up exclusives
- Write sophisticated analysis pieces about market trends ahead of the competition
- Leverage relationships among brokers, developers and other market pros to establish your team as the No. 1 news source for the CRE industry
- Work collaboratively with other senior journalists on the team to beat the competition in quantity and quality of exclusive CRE news and ensure smooth publication of daily content
- Work collaboratively with Green Street News journalists across geographies on articles about international deals, capital flows and market trends
- Serve as mentor to more junior journalists on the team
- Help lead eventual expansion of Green Street News across broader APAC region
- Should have 5+ years of reporting experience with hard-news clips from a daily newspaper, online information service or weekly publication
- A “nose for news” and a track record of developing hard-to-access sources on competitive beats. Business-news experience is strongly preferred, but not required
