The Role:

This Executive Editor will be a key newsroom leader, reporting to the Editor in Chief, driving editorial coverage across a range of topics while collaborating across the newsroom to execute TIME's editorial vision. This position will oversee the editorial teams dedicated to covering AI, Climate, and Health, including overseeing creation of the TIME100 AI, Climate, and Health lists.

This role will be responsible for expanding TIME's journalism to include regular coverage that is relevant to the decision-makers who are in those communities or who aspire to join them.

This position will be a member of TIME'seditorial leadership and work with the Editor in Chief and Deputy Editor to support TIME's key goals: creating high-impact journalism, growing TIME's tentpole offerings like the TIME100, and widening coverage that helps readers make important decisions about their lives.

This role is based in New York and will involve being part of a global, 24/7 news operation that coordinates between editorial staff in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. The Executive Editor should be able to juggle multiple, overlapping deadlines, be comfortable leading daily coverage alongside longer-lead pieces and projects as well as collaborating with colleagues across TIME's business side.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute TIME's editorial vision and priorities
  • Lead a comprehensive coverage strategy for TIME's AI, Climate, and Health journalism
  • Lead teams of reporters and editors who specialize in different areas
  • Oversee execution of high-impact features as well as special projects
  • Collaborate with Video, Photo and Art Departments on their award-winning journalism
  • Collaborate with reporters, editors, photo editors, video producers and others in the TIME newsroom to support and expand coverage


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of editing experience, preferably for a high-impact media outlet or publication
  • Experience leading editorial teams and projects
  • A track record of editing and creating high-impact and digital-first journalism
  • A commitment to a diversity of perspective
  • Unimpeachable news judgment and editorial instincts
  • Enthusiastic about innovation, positive change, and collaboration.
