Utah Lands Editor Job at The Salt Lake Tribune Inc in Salt Lake City

The Salt Lake Tribune Inc, Salt Lake City, UT, United States, 84193

Job Description

Job Description
Description:

The nonprofit Salt Lake Tribune seeks a Utah Lands Editor to lead a team of four reporters devoted to covering how we engage with outdoor spaces across Utah. Home to five national parks, tens of millions of acres of federally owned land, the Colorado River, the Great Salt Lake, more than a dozen ski resorts and countless ranches and farms, there is no better place to be when it comes to reporting on the environment and the economy connected to it.

This reporting team takes great care in building trust with sources, seeking every day to share the full story of how Utah’s resources are allocated and used. We work to share stories rooted in people, as well as our land, water and air, and about the many spots in Utah that bring so many people joy. The economics of how our land is used is a major through line for us, be it in mineral and natural resource mining, agriculture or housing.

We’re focused on solutions-oriented reporting, sharing not just what might be wrong but also what can be done to make change. Accountability is a primary function for this team, and for The Tribune, which has served as Utah’s independent voice for more than 150 years.

Your reporters will break news and also produce analysis and accountability reporting. You must be comfortable working in an audience-first environment. At The Tribune we work to understand who is impacted and to place them at the center of our reporting. You will also have experience placing a single story across platforms, so what a viewer sees for a specific piece of reporting is different on YouTube, in a newsletter or in a story on sltrib.com. An audience team at The Tribune will serve as a partner to you in realizing this reporting across platforms.

Finally, you will be a proactive communicator who is capable of creating a supportive working environment, with clearly defined expectations.

At least three to five years of experience as an editor is preferred.

Benefits

  • Health, dental and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • 10 paid holidays.
  • Three weeks of vacation.
  • Family leave.
  • Cellphone stipend.
