ABOUT THE ROLE The CoStar News team is launching coverage of the residential housing market on Homes.com. As an assignment editor, you would be responsible for managing a team of journalists focused on the people, trends, and companies that shape how we buy and sell homes. We are seeking an entrepreneurial self-starter who is well-versed in search engine optimization best practices who can lead a staff to regularly deliver scoops and enterprise that stand out from the competition. This is a high-profile post, with an opportunity to put your stamp on a new run of coverage, so we have a strong preference for an editor experienced in residential real estate or business topics at a general interest publication. RESPONSIBILITIES Take the lead in defining, producing, and managing the delivery of original daily news coverage for the Homes.com audience of buyers, sellers, and property professionals. Monitor major industry trends, leaders, and companies, including news and social channels, for leads and sector relevance. Collaborate and coordinate with CoStars graphics and photo department to ensure high-quality visuals accompany every story. Be responsible for the accuracy and veracity of the news you edit and ensure writers follow generally accepted journalism ethics and standards. Ensure stories are appropriately tagged for search and distribution purposes. Collaborate and coordinate with CoStars research department to ensure the news we publish is in sync with the real estate data provided to subscribers. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Bachelors degree in journalism, communications, English, or a related discipline. 5 years of proven editorial supervisory experience with a daily or weekly business publication. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS Reporting, writing, or editing experience within the real estate industry at a general interest publication. High attention to detail with the ability to eliminate spelling, grammatical, and punctuation errors. Display a command of AP style and SEO best practices. Results-oriented with proven ability to prioritize, drive, and achieve results through self and others while working under deadline.
