Call for Experts - Technical Editor
IESC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to equitable, sustainable economic growth in developing countries. By deploying a mix of technical assistance and volunteer expert support, IESC works with emerging industries, financial institutions, and governments to stabilize economic environments, increase opportunity, and promote growth.
IESC is seeking technical editors, who are able to provide professional editing support for new business technical proposals and IESC program related reports on a consulting basis. The Editor will be expected to provide overall quality control of solicitation response documents and program reports, while meeting tight deadlines.
Duties:
The Editor will undertake some or all of the following specific tasks for proposal editing/solicitation response support:
- Review and analyze the solicitation document and identify important issues or questions related to specific submission and formatting requirements.
- Respond to internal requests in a timely fashion and work with IESC staff to create manageable timelines.
- After initial guidance, edit all elements of proposal documents (including some or all technical annexes) to IESC brand standards with minimal direction.
- Copyedit technical proposal sections to ensure finest quality.
- Re-write sections to emphasize and incorporate “win themes” throughout the proposal based on technical direction from IESC staff.
- Cut or tighten language in technical proposal sections in order to meet page number limits, as required.
- Provide feedback or recommendations on the design of graphics to ensure clarity and effective communication of proposed approaches.
- Other editing or document preparation tasks as assigned.
The Editor may provide some or all of the following editing support for programmatic reporting:
- Edit program reports, particularly quarterly and final project reports, for quality, clarity, consistency, and impact and in accordance with IESC brand standards.
- Cut or tighten language in report document in order to meet page number limits, as required.
- Provide feedback or recommendations on the design of graphics to ensure clarity and effective communication of program approach and impact.
- Edit format and layout of reports for visual impact, readability, and brand consistency.
- Respond to internal requests in a timely fashion and work with IESC staff to create manageable timelines.
Qualifications:
- B.A. in English, Journalism, Creative Writing, or related area strongly preferred. Having additional certified trainings in relevant areas is desirable.
- Minimum five years of professional experience in writing or communications, and professional editing for international development proposals for various donors.
- Prior editing and formatting experience with USAID proposals is required.
- Excellent writing and formatting skills is required. This includes grammar, spelling and syntax; heavy, light, and copy editing; and proofreading. Adept knowledge of Microsoft Word and its editing tools is required.
- Strong project management and organizational skills: Ability to work under pressure in order to meet deadlines; attention to detail, thoroughness, and accuracy are critical.
- Excellent team communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills - including written and verbal communication skills.
- Fluency in English language is required.
- U.S. citizen or eligibility to work in the U.S.
