Job Description:

This position requires someone with some experience in writing, particularly sports, and an ability to edit others' work. It is a part-time position that requires management, writing and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work in a team environment.

POSITION TITLE: Student Employee, Sports Editor - Blazer

STATUS: Part time

DEPARTMENT: Dean of Students

DIVISION: Student Development

REPORTS TO: Bob Marcink

CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt

MINIMIUM PAY RATE: $14.00 per hour

(Position is FWS Eligible)

ESSENTIALJOBDUTIESANDKEYRESPONSIBILITIES
1. Edit sports stories
2. Write sports stories
3. Assign stories to other writers
4. Work with Co-editors to determine layout and priorities
5. Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS

1. Enrolled at JJC for 6 or more credit hours.

2. GPA 2.0 or above.
3. Writing experience on a student newspaper
4. Ability to work in Word and other applications
5. Ability and willingness to work with others in a team environment
6. Ability to interview coaches/players and produce original material

7. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS
1. Sports Writing experience
2. Editing experience, sports or other
3. Ability to manage others

4. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.

5. Demonstrated multicultural competence.

PHYSICALDEMANDS
* Ability to attend sporting events and cover them; normal office demands

WORKINGCONDITIONS
* Duties are performed indoors in the usual office and/or outdoor environment, depending upon the sports season.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: This is a student employee position that works around your class schedule. May work up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. During summer and holiday breaks (Winter/Spring), may work up to 28 hours per week with supervisor approval.
