Job Description
Summary:
As a staff member in the Office of Communication & Marketing, the Graphic Designer assists with production of a wide range of creative projects for offices and departments across campus. Utilizing a project management system and other available resources, the Graphic Designer provides assistance in the areas of: graphic design; web design (wireframing, content organization, and usability experience); document design; photography and videography.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and layout a wide variety of printed and digital assets supporting initiatives and goals for internal and external audiences.
- Coordinate and execute communications and marketing assets required for institutional events including, but not limited to: Matriculation, the Symposium on Democracy, and Commencement.
- Serve as a brand steward and maintain and grow the W&J brand image across all creative deliverables.
- Conceptualize, contribute and communicate ideas to project stakeholders and the larger communications team.
- Accountable for photographing, or for securing and coordinating photography, at special events held on campus as requested.
- Adhere to established schedules and scope while ensuring that quality standards are met.
- Expected to work productively and harmoniously as a collaborative team member and to be able to work and problem-solve independently.
- Be an agile team player who thrives on a collaborative team with a professional and positive attitude.
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn (and share knowledge!)
- Available for coverage of institutional events.
- Manages the Photoshelter system for organizing photography and ensuring that photos are updated and approved for campus use.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in graphic design, marketing, photography, or related field, and an online portfolio highlighting his/her work.
- 1 to 3 years graphic design experience.
- Fluent in Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience in digital photography, editing and archiving. Videography is a plus.
- Technical knowledge of file preparation and procedures for print production.
- Strong design aesthetics with type, color, layout and composition.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Comprehension of logical page structure, readability, visual hierarchy, and balance.
- Must be motivated, flexible, detail-oriented, with strong organizational and team skills.
- Ability to take direction and adjust and adapt to feedback.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the College community, from students to the president and senior staff.
- Proof of organizational and project management skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Supervisory Duties:
This position has no direct reports.
