The Collection Development Librarian for children's materials collaborates with the management team to develop and maintain library collections that meet the needs and interests of the community. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of library principles and best practices related to collection development. Key responsibilities include selecting materials, managing material budgets, monitoring the database and ensuring the accuracy of library records, analyzing and interpreting library data, and addressing internal and external suggestions for the collections.
Under general supervision, performs professional-level librarian duties, utilizing current technology and traditional resources to meet the informational, instructional, educational, and recreational needs of the community; manages assigned library collections and programs for the Waco-McLennan County Library (WMCL).

- Bachelor's degree
- Two years of library experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides technical and professional assistance to library patrons; assists and instructs people in ways to identify, locate, access, and use public information and resources; processes patron's requests for additional resources.
- Provides research, reference, and reader's advisory services.
- Develops, presents, and promotes library programs, services, training, and special promotions to patrons including outreach to schools, community groups, and at special events.
- Develops and maintains print, media, and electronic collections by reviewing, evaluating, selecting, and weeding library materials.
- Creates library publications, including bibliographies, guides, and displays.
- Gathers and compiles data for reports of the library's activities and operations.
- Assists with training and supervision of volunteers and staff.
- Oversees library/department security and checks to assure patrons comply with policies; maintains discipline and order in the library/department.
- May be responsible for library operations in the branch manager's absence.
- Monitors the database and verifies the accuracy of records; verifies the accuracy and accessibility of catalog records.
- Develops special promotions for patrons, including outreach programs and training classes.
- Provides basic circulation service, as needed.
- Substitutes at other library departments and branches as needed.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Waco and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with resident, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work related issues and City information.
