The University of California, San Diego Library seeks creative, collaborative, and service-oriented applicants for the position of Electronic Resources and Serials Librarian for our Content Acquisition and Resource Sharing (CARS) Program.
Responsibilities of the Position – Reporting to the Program Director for CARS, the Electronic Resources and Serials Librarian serves as the Division Head for the Electronic Resources and Serials Units. Reviews and negotiates licenses for UCSD purchased resources and manages the acquisition, activation, and troubleshooting of all purchased and subscribed electronic resources for the Library. Collaborates with collection strategists on licenses. Coordinates the gathering and analyzing of serials, ebooks, database usage, and other related assessment data. The Electronic Resources and Serials Librarian also oversees the activities of the serials acquisitions unit. This position directly supervises 4 FTE (3 in electronic resources and one serials unit head), and 3 FTE (serials unit) indirectly. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, which includes a combination of 2 to 3 days of onsite and 2 to 3 days of remote work.
- As a CARS Division Head, manages personnel, delegates work, and oversees the development and implementation of new policies and procedures.
- Recommends and adapts new technologies and ensures appropriate training.
- Demonstrated experience in electronic resources management.
- Manages the life cycle of electronic resources including acquisition, licensing, activation, and troubleshooting access issues.
- Manages and oversees adherence to license terms for the Library’s electronic resources in consultation with collection strategists.
- Oversees the acquisition of serial publications in all formats.
- Gathers data on acquisition, holdings, and usage of electronic resources and print serials.
- Manages electronic books and streaming video licensing, acquisition, and troubleshooting.
- Collaborates closely with collection strategists to support resource acquisition.
- Represents the Library in communications and negotiations with content providers, vendors, and publishers.
- Collaborates with the California Digital Library Acquisitions Unit to manage shared, UC systemwide electronic collections and serials.
