Job Overview
The Richard A. Mola Public Library in Elmwood Park, a member of the BCCLS consortium of 77 public libraries, seeks a dynamic, action-oriented library professional to lead its newly renovated library with a commitment to expand community engagement. Elmwood Park is located in Bergen County, NJ, 12 miles from NYC, and serves a diverse community of approximately 21,000.
The ideal candidate is a strong, self-motivated leader enthusiastic about meeting the challenging immediate needs of recruiting staff, augmenting the collection, increasing programming, implementing new services, and expanding patron involvement.
Duties
The Director is responsible for all administration of the Library, including oversight of an annual $900,000 budget; managing personnel and facilities; and supervision of the library’s collection, services, and programs.
Oversee the daily operations of library services, ensuring efficient delivery of programs and resources.
Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance library services and community outreach.
Lead, mentor, and manage staff, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including staff, patrons, and community partners.
Conduct research to identify trends in library services and implement best practices.
Write reports and proposals for funding opportunities to support library initiatives.
Maintain accurate records of library operations and prepare necessary documentation for audits.
Requirements
ALA accredited master's degree in Library/Information Science as well as NJ State Public Librarian Certificiation (or eligibility).
A minimum of 5 years experience in the public library sector or related, with management, administration and/or supervisory experience.
Clear knowledge of best practices in personnel management, library-specific policies and procedures, budgeting and purchasing.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent customer service skills with a focus on community engagement.
Proficient in using technology, including computer systems relevant to library operations.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both written and verbal formats.
Familiarity with public relations and effective methods of outreach.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with Board members, municipal and school officials, local organizations and the public.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
