Title: LIBRARY SPECIALIST - Spanish Fluency

Location: Davies Library, 128 2nd Ave. Deer Trail, CO 80105

Reports to: Supervisor, Branch

FLSA Status: Non-exempt, 40 hours.

Pay Rate: $19.76 - $23.22

Purpose: Welcome and assist all community members and patrons in the use of the library by delivering outstanding, inclusive service while keeping current on internal communications and library offerings in order to connect patrons with the appropriate resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

85% PATRON ASSISTANCE AND MATERIALS HANDLING

General patron assistance:
  • Greets all library visitors and provides proactive assistance in both English and Spanish.
  • Assists patrons with library account inquiries, including cash register transactions.
  • Connects patrons with other library staff as needed.
  • Provides basic advisory and reference services to patrons in a variety of collections and genres.
  • Promotes and supports library resources, programs and events.
  • Listens to patron feedback and shares through appropriate channels.
  • Sets expectations for library use, de-escalates and resolves patron concerns.
  • Straightens and cleans up the library to provide a welcoming experience.
  • Works regular evening and weekend shifts.


Technology assistance:
  • Assists patrons with basic technology and troubleshooting questions, including assistance with patron computers, tablets, phones and other devices.
  • Assists patrons with library technology offerings, such as Microsoft Office, e-resources and online databases.
  • Troubleshoots library technology and equipment, such as copiers and printers.
  • Assists patrons with reservable spaces, including basic AV equipment support.
  • Connects patrons with other library staff as needed for intermediate and advanced technology needs.
  • Basic use and understanding of Arapahoe Libraries' Integrated Library System.


Materials handling:
  • Performs library materials collection maintenance.
  • Merchandizes library materials, creates and maintains library displays.
  • Processes and shelves library materials and patron holds.
  • Utilizes material replenishment and inventory intelligent management system.


15% LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT
  • Keeps current on new library resources, trends, technology and offerings.
  • Takes initiative to consistently update skills to effectively assist patrons.
  • Keeps up to date on internal communication and information to effectively assist patrons and co-workers.
  • Promotes positive relationships with co-workers and collaborates with others to meet the needs of staff and patrons.
  • Provides ongoing and regular feedback and observations to supervisors.
  • May develop and deliver programs and events depending on location, for example: Storytime and patron events. **


Performs other related duties and may contribute to cross-functional initiatives and projects as assigned and requested.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • One-year customer service, library or education/teaching experience.
  • Ability to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends.
  • Oral communication skills in Spanish language. Must pass oral language assessment provided by HR before employment.
  • Basic technology skills for Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Teams, and an ability to learn and apply new technologies.
  • Ability to demonstrate curiosity in the vast technological and online resources the library has to offer and comfortable learning side by side with patrons.
  • Ability to communicate new ideas, products and services in a positive and engaging manner.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for an environment of constant change.
  • Ability to work with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certification for First Aid, AED and CPR. **

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience working with children and teens.


Work Environment:

  • The essential duties for this position are performed in an indoor environment.
  • Moderate noise (computers, phones, printers and patron interactions).
  • Ability to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends.


Physical Activities:

Physical activities required to perform essential duties include:
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 25-50% of the time.
  • Must be able to move around 75-100% of the time.
  • Ability to lift to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to push and pull a cart weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to kneel, crouch, reach and stoop 50% of the time.
  • Use of hands, fingers, and grasping of books, DVD's are required, with repetitive motion.
  • Long periods of sitting, remaining stationary, or moving around.
  • Frequency or repetitive actions which includes typing, shelving materials, occasionally opening and closing media cases.
  • Bending, grasping, stretching without limitations which includes reaching into bins for materials, moving bins and carts filled with materials, shelving and shifting materials at various height levels.
  • Lifting above your waist, head etc. up to 25 lbs.
