The purpose of this position is to assist with the management of the department. This is accomplished by managing and supervising staff and employee relations, the customer experience; ensuring programs are viable and within budgets; supporting library marketing and social media; supporting the library's technology infrastructure; working on collaborative efforts with community stakeholders; help in managing the library budget, and developing more efficient work processes. Additional duties include responding to customer inquiries and assisting with special projects.

Vacation
Non-civil service employees accrue 6.67 hours per month (2 weeks per year).
All police employees accrue 10 hours per month (3 weeks per year).
All Fire employees accrue 15 hours per month (7.5 - 24 hour shifts a year).
Sick Leave
Non-civil service employees accrue 10 hours per month (3 weeks per year).
All police employees accrue 10 hours per month (3 weeks per year).
All Fire employees accrue 15 hours per month (7.5 - 24 hour shifts a year).
Holidays
Non-civil service employees receive 13 paid holidays per year including one personal or "floating" day.
Longevity Pay
Earned at a rate of $4 per month.
This is calculated on number of years of service up to and including 25 years (maximum $1200).
Worker's Compensation
Worker's compensation coverage is provided for all employees.
Fire/Police
Eligible for Education/Certification pay.
Deferred Compensation Plans- Mass Mutual/Empower

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Acts as resource person for daily operations and for Library Director in his/her absence;
- Assists the Library Director in technology, budget, building, and administrative matters;
- Oversees management and operations of library departments including Adult, Circulation, Technical, Teen, and Youth Services to ensure all services are conducted in compliance with library and city policies and procedures and federal, state and local regulations; helps resolve problem situations with customers
- Helps plan, prepare, and implement annual library budget and helps monitor expenditures and operational costs throughout the fiscal year;
- Supports library marketing and social media efforts;
- Attends city interdepartmental meetings, city events, and outreach events on behalf of the library;
- Works effectively with community stakeholders, and helps to further develop library collaborative efforts; and
- Performs other assigned duties.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in library science, public administration, or related field;
- Five (5) years of related work experience in a library management position or comparable management experience;
- Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited college is preferred;
- Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
- Valid Driver's License.

- Knowledge of reference techniques and sources;
- Knowledge of collection development techniques and print and electronic resources;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Skill in the operation and use of standard office software which includes databases and presentation programs, along with standard Microsoft products;
- Skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing; and
- Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with co-workers, the public, and elected and appointed officials;
- Ability to plan, organize, direct, and appraise the work of assigned personnel;
- Ability to provide internal/external guidance and customer assistance via all forms of communication;
- Ability to ascertain priorities and meet deadlines and objectives;
