Glen Ellyn Public Library provides an open, vibrant center that builds community where people can connect, explore new trends, and find trustworthy, reliable information to feed their curiosity.


We are looking for a dedicated and member-focused Library Services Clerk to join our team who will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our library and provide excellent service to our members.


We Are Looking for Candidates with:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least one year's experience working with public
  • Commitment to public service
  • Confidence using the Microsoft 365 applications and ability to learn the Core Technology Competencies
  • Ability to learn the librarys management system and the arrangement of material in a library
  • Ability to bend, carry up to twenty pounds, move loaded wheeled carts weighing up to 300 pounds, and stand for four-hour shifts
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication
  • Attention to detail, ability to multitask, and ability to prioritize and organize work
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a productive team


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Checking in and checking out materials
  • Issuing and renewing library cards
  • Assisting the public and answering and redirecting inquiries in person, over the telephone, and via email or chat
  • Receiving and recording fees
  • Updating cardholder accounts
  • Retrieving and processing requested materials
  • Running reports and verifying item status or collecting materials associated with those reports
  • Removing items from the reserve shelf that have not been retrieved and changing the status in the librarys management system
  • Processing and preparing holds for cardholders to pick up
  • Processing and transiting material for holds to other libraries
  • Organizing items and carts for discharge and shelving
  • Retrieving and discharging materials from book drops, checking items for damage
  • Organizing returned materials for shelving
  • Returning borrowed materials to the owning libraries
  • Carrying out other duties in support of the department and the library


Hourly Rate, Schedule

  • $14.06-$21.08, $17.57 is the midpoint for this position. Offers are made within this range based on competencies, experience, and internal equity.


Total Bi-Weekly Hours: 54


Schedule

  • Every other:
    • Saturday, 9am-5pm
    • Sunday, 1-5pm
  • Monday 5-9pm
  • Wednesday 9am-5pm
  • Alternating Thursdays 9am-5pm/ 1-5pm
  • Friday 2pm - 6pm
