(Bookmobile North): The purpose of this position is to provide assistance to the general public in obtaining materials and services offered by the public library. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment. Employment is contingent upon clearing both the drug screening and background investigation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Process all library circulation transactions (includes checking in and out of all materials, placing items on hold, registering new patrons).
- Answers the telephone, provides information and assistance; collects fines and fees; obtains books and materials from other libraries to fill patron requests.
- Ensures equipment used by the public is in good working order; demonstrates proper use of such equipment; performs routine maintenance, e.g., loading paper and changing toner cartridges.
- Sorts and returns materials to stacks, re-shelves, and files.
- Recommends new books to a variety of our patrons by reserving books.
- Notifies patrons of overdue or reserve library materials; processes and covers new materials.
- Strives to resolve patron problems and concerns relating to late fees or unreturned materials.
- Checks in magazines, newspapers and other mail, routing to appropriate locations.
- Assists with special events.
- Transfers library materials between library branches.
- Performs related work as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
- Over one year and up to and including two years of related experience.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
